    Default Oiling green timber....

    I thought this would be the place to ask the question.
    I bought some blue gum which I pushed trough the thicknesser and cleaned it all up. It is pretty green. after the surface dried up I oiled it all with decking oil and it looks beautiful. After I started to think maybe I shouldn't have done that. I look all the moisture in and it can't dry?
    What is going to happen???

    It will still dry but just a bit slower. Unless you use something like grease the oil will eventually evaporate and break down and allow the moisture through.

    Even if it is oiled it would be inadvisable to use green timber for anything that you want to remain stable and a fixed size as it will shrick.

    That makes sense to me.....how much shrinkage would you get with Blue Gum?

    It is relatively substantial compared to other species, read here.
