I reckon filter oils are way more trouble than they are worth and haven't used any since 2007. A good saw can handle quite a bit of fines, just pop the filter every couple of hours and tap the filter out. Every month or so I wash the carby out with raw petrol to make sure no fines are in there blocking jets etc.

hey bud, all my saws are good saws, invested lots of cash into them. I don't mind trying to keep them in tip top condition mate, they have the hardest life Milling our hardwoods especially when your milling logs that have been dead for decades. Ive seen so many saws die in the ass because there not looked after and maintained properly for there intended use. I know my saws don't have any fines in the chamber grinding away at the walls, because they never get the chance to get past the filter in the first place.

If you are worried about dust then these heavy duty oiless systems are one possibility.

BobL, have you tried those oiless filters ?
I would be interested to get a couple for my milling saw.

I tried a prototype foam filter made by Unifilter many years ago, I found it too bulky, you had to squash it up a bit to fit it into the airfilter housing. I ended up going back to the OEM filters, which have inherent problems of their own.

I had started to try and design a remote air cleaner system for my 3120, using a Donaldson housing and filter, it became too difficult because of the lack of adjustabilty on the carburetter jets.
So I persevered with Husky air filters which I found to have a lot of shortcomings.

I haven't tried one personally but I know a guy in SA and forum member Laurie (Sawchain) use them and they reckon they are worth the $.

I don't know why, but even though I have milled some bone dry logs I don't seem to have a problem with air filters. On the 880 I think this has to do with my muffler mod, but even on the 441 which has no muffler mod I don't seem to have a problem.

I don't mill with my c/s, but do cut splits at times - not had filter probs and run standard filters on my Husky's, just do regular maintenance
I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
