    Default boron

This boron based product sounds not too bad and seems to do the job
Thanks for the effort of finding out about this, I have added it to favorites.

    Good onya Dattashri -thanks mate.

I've got a bit more of this tree - about 1 tonne, so I will give it a go on the next peice I use.

I ended up swapping the top of the table with a bit of Gympie Messmate I had kicking around - couldn't treat 'em in time to send him back with it
I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

Default OSMOSE Boracol apparently uses Ethylene Glycol

This very informative thread indicates that OSMOSE Boracol uses propylene glycol as the solvent.

Unfortunatelly, current OSMOSE MSDS for Boracol indicate that far more toxic Ethylene Glycol is the solvent. See: material safety data sheets

A 'homebrew' equivalent that uses propylene glycol is at:

Wood Rot and Dry Rot Homemade wood treatments

    Just updating for future hits.

    Regards,
    Chris

    Default bug treatment

Thanks for that chris, that website was clear simple with some recipes for a homebrew bug solution that seems to be reasonably safe to use and available from hardware or supermarkets, boron based chemicals, just don't go drinking the stuff

    Hi Peter,

it's probably long gone, but do you still have that TimBor powder? .. was doing a search for a good anti-fungal and this is one of them. I'm dressing up some old shipping container floor-boards.

    here's hoping,

    regards,

    Dave

I had a look at our local hardware, couldn't find borax to mix up myself, does it go by a different name or am I looking in the wrong place?

The fumigation tent idea sounds good???
Buy a couple of cans of castrol anti freeze and a couple of tubs (500g each) of borax dissolve the borax in warm water and add the antifreeze add 10 to 20 litres of cold water and thoroughly spray the wood with it to the point of run off. This should fix it and make it resistant to termites for your lifetime.

This is basically what timbor is.
I am told that sharpening handsaws is a dying art.... this must mean I am an artisan.

Get your handsaws sharpened properly to the highest possible standard, the only way they should be done, BY HAND, BY ME!!! I only accept perfection in any saw I sharpen.

    Default borax hey?

    Hi Trav,

thanks for that tip. It's a shame Peter hasn't got back to me about that large bag of 'TimBor' .. hope he's still about. in the US it's a cheap as dirt pretty much .. less so than borax with antifreeze .. and it takes the guesswork out.

I think this will probably work though.

    regards,

    Dave
