You can't cover yourself for workers compo Carl, what Inter is talking about is personal insurance for yourself only, covers loss of income and death and permanent disability should something happen to you on the job.
You can make it cheaper by pushing out the time you have to be off before they pay out. I did this when I ran my Landscaping business as I figured my wife and I would cope short term (less than a year) but long term, if something happened to me that meant I could no longer work I did not want to be relying on the government and it would be nice to be able to maintain a given level of income.

When I am working in my other day job as a construction site manager, the minimum insurances required for sub contractors usually are public / products liability & personal accident / sickness insurance, Depending on policies some companies will only engage subcontractors that are registered companies with appropriate workers compensation insurance.

For a large company like t-----s that doesn't sound right, for a start even the simplest sub contract agreement paperwork will have a space for "subcontractor public liabilty insurer, policy number, expiry date" & " subcontractor workers compensation or accident policy insurer, policy number, expiry date" first page just under who the contract is between, it forms part of the contract, so if the details are not supplied then there is no contract & if you or one of your guys were to injure themselves then t----s would be liable for all costs involved with injury
Also by the sounds of it you probably need to get yourself into a small business course real quick, at least to find out what liability your getting into by employing "workers"
If one of them was to have an accident you would be up for any costs associated with the injury or time off work.

I did know the figures at one stage but not sure now.
Workers comp is only if your annual wage payout is over a certain amount and Superannuation i think is if you earn/pay more than $450 gross wages to someone in a month.
So if you pay casuals and their wage is under $450 in every month you dont need to pay them superannuation and if your total yearly wages is less than (i think about $2000) then you dont have to pay Workers Comp but they are still covered even though you dont qualify to have to pay it.
Added just checked and Victoria is wages under $7500 per year no premium required - Queensland cant find anything about it.
Hope that helps

If you had to worry about all that red tape, Lucas milling would not be viable, best just keep working for cash jobs , nice and simple

The Queensland governing body is Q-Comp. Have a look at this site . From memory workcover Qld charges us <$200 per year for 4 part time employees, quite a bit less I think.
