Mmmm what a crapfight ! I thought this would bring out a " keyboard cutter or two "
Well not having an axe to grind as far as brand name or cheap saws go ( AND I AM NOT A CHAINSAW DEALER, ONLY ACCESSORIES ) here are are a couple problems to do with safety that I have come across.
1) after not much use the chaincover on a Wun Hung Lo warped so badly that the brake band in the cover failed to completely engage on the clutch drum, rendering the chain brake inoperable. This is a common problem not an isolated case.
2) when turned on its side to do a felling cut, same brand of saw fuel from the tank breather, causing a potentially dangerous situation. This also happened when the fuel tank was full to a lesser extent.
3) same saw then became a beacon when fuel vapour ignited after hot gas from the poorly placed exhaust port and/or lack of spark arrestor in the muffler caused the bark on a Messmate to catch fire, and consequently ignited the fuel vapour.
4) wrong or defective rim sprocket fitted at factory causing chain to break, luckily did not cause a chain shot.
There are quite a few other problems, however mainly to do with quality or lack thereof in the materials used in these saws.
I would guarantee that if these cheap saws were tested properly they would not meet Australian standards.
I now refuse to work on these saws because sometimes you fix a problem then it re occurs not long after., which in turn creates discontent with a customer.
How much quality are you going to get when Australian importers pay as little as USD$25 for a 60cc saw from China ?
I tend to agree with Travis & Bob L as far as comments go.
Unless someone has first hand experience with these saws they should keep their misinformed views to themselves.
I only state facts, which comes from actual experience using or working on these particular saws,
BTW I found these when searching for Australian standards on chainsaws

I fully agree with you regarding the fact that many name brands are using Chinese manufacture albeit to their own higher standards.
Not everything Chinese is of poor quality, (let's face it, they are one of the world's oldest civilisations so they should know a thing or two).
As regards your concrete saw. What about these options, Efco(oleo mac) or perhaps look for an ex contractor, ex hire or ex council machine, (I have seen these come up for auction on several occasions and it doesn't sound like you are in a hurry)
I would be somewhat cautious of some of the chinese concrete saw manufacturers based on the poor reputation of their chainsaws, (remember concrete dust is a lot harder to filter than sawdust for example and you will be running at full throttle for long periods, much like chainsaw milling) May also pay to check ebay, Had quick look tonight and there are a couple of partner quick cuts and they have a fairly good rep around here). Another point to consider. Do you intend to keep this saw? If you do what you have to do and then sell it, any of the name brands will still be worth money whereas your chinese fortune cookie copy will be worth very little if anything.
