    Default Red Cedar Tree

Here's a photo of a paddock grown Red Cedar(one of 12) harvested on the Atherton Tablelands a few years ago.Butt was 4.5m long and contained 9 cube, rest of it yielded another 11 cube.Slabs were 1500mm wide all the way, colour was deep red and fiddleback intense.Quality isn't expensive,it's priceless

Being such a soft timber, limits it's application(s) somewhat.Alot of the cedar you see for sale nowadays are from trees that haven't been given the chance to mature, folk are to interested in making a quick buck! The Cedar that was blown over in nth qld (gadgarra state forest) during cyclone larry, was gigantic.A great example, of how big this species will get,on maturity.

    Thumbs up

yes, Old mature Cedar can be spectacular stuphph. I love the quality it holds into very old age . I had some pieces, that were onlyquite small, taken from a 100 yr old house. I kept them for about 15 years or so before using them on a small repair job. Still cut like cheese and planed beautifully.( Also nailed very well. )
