    Default Rose sheoak casurina torulosa

    Hi all,
this is my first foray into the forum.
Living on 200 acres north of Kyogle (beef cattle, Murray greys/ brahman bull)
i recently had a rose sheoak crash across my fenceline after cutting it off the destroyed fence it still had about 6 metres of straight timber approx 600mm diameter. I used my Alaskan to slab it straight down the middle in two lengths of about 2.5m.
my question: beautiful looking timber but how should i cut it up ? Is it any good as a slab or should i divide into smaller sections 4x4 or 4x2's any help gratefully appreciated

It has a tendency to split and check if backsawn so i strongly suggest you quarter saw it Smaller sections o.k as it is very sought after for box making ,fancy turnery etc.Stunning timber that deserves to be milled right..Good score and Good luck...MM

As MM has already said plus the fact that quarter sawing oak excentuates the medulary ray giving much more figure.

Definitely quarter sawn, but you need to quarter relative to the fans.

    Thumbs up Sheoak photos

So i took all your advise and took one 50mm slab off each of the halves i had already cut up using my csm and then cut those 50mm slabs down the centre using my good old SCM panel saw (should show up in the images), this was the first 1/4 saw cut, this made the bucks less than 140 mm so i was able to cut and rotate 90 degrees to finish them off with the panel saw, got some excellent colour. Now to pack, stack and cover for a few years. Also kept all the offcuts
how good are those alaskan mills!
    thanks again
