Sigidi's new toys...
Ok so be warned - a shameless plug for Lucas coming up
I rang Dudley at Lucas HQ yesterday at 0926 put an order in for some things....
0740 this morning in Brissy...
now I know you all wanna know what was in the box, so I took some pics of that too
How friggin cool is that? less than 24 hours later, you can't be unhappy with that kind of service.
Couple of things I've noticed already with this slabber attachment compared to the one which went on Larry, the oil bottle is much bigger now and clear so it's easier to see the level of oil you are running - shouldn't be so easy to accidentally run out of oil during slabbing. Also the gearbox locating pins for the slabbing attachment are now 'moveable' the last one had the pins out all the time which proved to be a challenge fitting the slabber at times. The sprocket has 14 teeth to overcome the slower speed Bo spins at instead of the previous 12 tooth sprocket. The sprocket also has a heap more holes on the underside of it to help clear out sawdust/oil material that tends to build up in the sprocket. Oh and the toolkit too, that is a new addition to when I had Larry's slabbing attachment, comes with a couple of wedges (very handy to hold the slab up off your chain and reduce possible chain breakages) a raker file and round file, both with handles, a file-o-plate for keeping those rakers in tip top condition and of course the Schulz Sharpening Jig (must be a typo coz it looks a bit like Ian's name, but don't reckon they named it after him )
That's just the first things I noticed unpacking it, I'm sure Lucas have done some other updates/fine tuning and will let you all know after I've had a closer look and a little playI love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
Allan.

Wow, if you need Chris to help you get it installed just give a call. He tells me he had a specially good time setting up one Saturday. He is here now, we will cut tomorrow.
What I want to know is how you got two saw blades, or did you add the second to the order?

Nah, I won't be needed help to set it up; the one that came with my last mill was a bit fiddly to set up until you got 'the knack' but this one will be simple as with the adjustable gearbox pins it now has.
As for the two blades, do you mean the other chain? I did get a 3 skip and 5 skip chain - first job out is a silky oak that isn't so wide, so its good to use the 3 skip on something like that.
I also got the chain sharpening jig which sits on your rails, so you don't have to sharpen the chain on the bar, makes chain sharpening much easier and quicker, plus always good to do stuff standing up rather than crawling around in the sawdust or hunching over the barI love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

Gotta go metal and for my money I reckon you gotta go 19mm too, the tools are the same price for the smaller straps but the strap is much 'lighter' duty. So now I have the tensioner, crimper, holder (which I'm gunna make some 'alterations' to) couple rolls of strap, box of paint and box of gloves too - cheapest I've seen anywhere and like I say delivery was cheap at twice the cost
I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

Yeh, what Sigidi said. I've got the signet setup with the 19mm strap (gal) and the carrier to sit the roll in. I've got a tin of seals hanging of it and away you go. Not cheap initially but well worth it. I started out with the nylon and wire buckles but it's just not strong enough and deteriorates in the sun.
cheers

Good to see ya still around Al good to see new toys too. Hope to see ya at the GTG if ya can make it!
I am told that sharpening handsaws is a dying art.... this must mean I am an artisan.
Get your handsaws sharpened properly to the highest possible standard, the only way they should be done, BY HAND, BY ME!!! I only accept perfection in any saw I sharpen.

the felling truck
Today I was assessed as a compitant tree feller as I am going to start working as a feller for a local sawmill untill my Mill arrives. I find the new forest works things a little tricky. I have a young bloke working with me as well hate seeing talent wasted working retail so we ve set the ute up quite well here s some pic s
