new to slabbing
Hi all just joined your forum. I live on the other side of the pond from most of you on the east coast of the USA. You guys know more about slabbing than most of the owners here so I've been looking on here to learn more. I've been sawing with a TK 2000 bandmill for about 5 years now and order a Turbo saw slabber with the Honda engine. It should be here in about a month. I think I'm the first one here that has a TS slabber. I've never ran a slabber or watch one run except on Youtube. So there is much to learn and here was a place I thought where I could learn more.
I work wih my mill about every day, I don't do any portable sawing. Only buy logs and sell lumber or smaller slabs now. I have a solar kiln and a Nyle DH kiln also. I'm thinking that the slabber will only be ran a few times a month, I'll still use my TK the most.
I know I'll need the 27RX chain, are they all the same or do I need more info before ordering a loop of chain? The oil for the bar, do you use regular bar oil? I've read some on sharpening the chain, do they come in the correct angles? I do have a bench sharpener. I know I'll have more questions and most will sound simple to you but I'm in a learning mode now.
Thanks for any help and advise, Ricky

Firstly welcome to the forums.
You need to be aware that in Oz, compared to millers in the northern hemisphere we operate under quite different conditions on very different timbers approaching the hardness of cast iron.
I don't like redirecting people away from this site but if you want slabbing info especially on your type of woods you had best go to this site.
Milling & Saw Mills | Arboristsite.com
Also there are a number of BS millers on that site - whereas not many folks use a BS mill in Oz.
I know I'll need the 27RX chain, are they all the same or do I need more info before ordering a loop of chain? The oil for the bar, do you use regular bar oil? I've read some on sharpening the chain, do they come in the correct angles? I do have a bench sharpener.
For chain and oil I'd go with the mill manufacturers recommendation. For sharpening info on chains you'll find it gets as nerdy as the choice of oils and chains or maybe more so. Much more info about this on the site mentioned above.
I post a lot of what I get up to on both forums so please feel free to do likewise as you will get a different perspective on each forum.
