    Default Slabbing Bluegum

Found a big Bluegum that came over in a flood a few years ago. Lucky it was on friends place with lots of toys to get it where we could mill it. The Dozer got it out of the river, then the tractor an skidsteer to get the slabs off. I would not recommend salvaging logs from the river, the amount of sand and rocks in the log was huge. I cleaned the log with high pressure water but it still played havoc with the chains. Ended up getting 1 slab per chain, but at 5.7m long and 1m wide at the butt, I think it was worth it.
A lot of time of time and effort went into this log but like any miller, you live to see what's inside the log.

Great Job - timber looks sensational.

How many minutes did it take per cut?

This log was very slow cutting as it came out of a River bed. I pressure cleaned it, but it still had some grit in the cracks, I cant remember the exact time per slab except to say it was slow, probably around 5 to 6 mins or longer per slab, one slab I had to back out and replace the chain. I would think twice now before salvaging logs that have been in a river. Isold some of the split slabs to a local bloke here who put them on his patio. They came up quite nice.
