Steve, I hope your Lucas chap isn't going to do it the way you mentioned above - that won't give a regular sized cant, better to do it the way you mentioned. If he flips the log over after taking the top off it won't be the same thickness at each end - unless he 'dresses' the top of his log supports before doing any of it, then doesn't move them throughout the whole process and also after each log he raises the end frames the same amount to get the next log in... a lot more messing around and much easier to do as you mentioned.
Good luck with it and let us know how it goesI love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
Allan.

I decided (my buddy Jeff talked me out of it) the job was not going to yield the quality material the owner was looking for. He would have received sapwood fence posts and large grain lumber. So the job has been canceled.
thanks Allan, I may have misunderstood him.

Steve is that Jeff from FF? if so, he would definitely know what he is talking about - nothing worse than busting ya hump to try and give the customer the best you can and just no be able to give them what they want 'cause of something you can't change like the quality of the logs.
As for the misunderstanding, it's all good, but he may have been thinking it'd work the way you stated, but for the record it would have been better doing it the way you suggestedI love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

The FF Jeff is a friend too, but he is too far away from me; the other Jeff lives across town and we can get together and help each other. I automated his setworks control on his B20 which eliminated the cord reel which always hampered his work, and he gave me some steel plate and large hinges and I made a sawdust scoop (1 yard size) for my forklift, as examples.
You are right to about providing the right service, better for everyone.
