Southern Silky Oak
Felled a large Silky Oak yesterday, and decided to position the scarf a little higher than normal(about 550mm more) as the stem was on a lean (at Butt end) and straightened about half way up the tree.I felt it was much safer doing it this way.Anyway,i was left with a nice chunk of Butt wood to trim off and this is a sample of what it revealed .Only milled a few hours ago so still has its rich color showing. The base b.t.w was around 1000mm wide.Gnarly old paddock tree of which i will post pics tomorrow...MM
