Steve's Bandsawmill - tailing out

I was checking out the woodmisers last night and noted the board return on the LT70. My mill has a similar setup - a sweeper comes down after the cut is finished and pushes the sawn slabs backwards. The conveyor rises up out of the bed to the height of the cut and the sawn slabs slide onto it. The conveyor then drops back down to bed height and transfers the wood backwards onto more rollers for removal.

Might interest others planning tailing out systems.

Looks cool Steve. The LT70 system works very well and on most small operations ive seen it working on, woodmizer have an incline conveyor you can put onto the end of the mill which runs up to a tipping deck. You can see it in their AWMV range on their website. The LT70 has been changed from what you see on the website also. They have ripped out alot of the electronics and changed it to a hydrostatic drive system that is all controlled by joystick remote form wherever you want to be, except Bali of course

, personally im hangin to see it and with the dollar as strong as it is its got me thinking

I'll check it out. I need to rig up a kicker and transfer deck at the end of my rollers so that I can cut for longer. At the moment as soon as the rollers are full I have to run down the other end and jump on the forklift to take the slabs off.

On other thing I noticed on the wood miser is the little bark removing saw that runs ahead of the bandsaw. Looks like a good idea for extending resharpening time.

Looks a great set up.
I belong to a woodies club and we have a basic band saw mill,but at the moment we have a problem with the blade tending to wander up when cutting.
As we have the sharpening machine and it has been working ok
Question, how many times can you sharpen the blade before its worn out and Can the blade be set ?
Hope someone can be of assistance

David,
What sort of blade do you have?

If it is a tipped blade the number of sharpens will depend on the size of the tip.

If it is a metal blade you may find you have lost your set and need to reset the blade. A standard saw setting tool will suffice for this.

You need to check the bottom of your gullets for cracking in the blade also. You will generally feel it before you can see it. Once cracking appears you have to chuck the blade.

Check out the AWMV section of the woodmizer site and you will see just what you are after. The little round blade in front they call the debarker option, it works very well, a mate of mine has one on his LT70 as he cuts pine all the time

Thanks for the information
I got out the hand saw set tonight and set one of the blades and we will see what happens.
Yes the blades are metal no hardening as it set just like an ordinary hand saw,I suppose a saw set for a circular saw would be better.
The blades are about 30 mm wide with one tooth to 25 mm
I will let you know how it goes when we get to try it.

i tried setting some of my band saw blades but i just broke the teeth off.

Well, we put the set blade on and it cuts magic

I hadn't set the blade because many people said it would brake the teeth like Weisyboy said in the previous post.

Thanks to Kev for the suggestion to set the blade.

Put the blade out in the sun first and warm up the steel before setting, reduces the risk of bustin teeth
