Don't forget to bring lots of water and something to eat. My freezer is fill of water bottles, as they defrost, I'll have nice cold water to drink.

Well I'm finally home again, fed and showered, trying to relax. What a day, it was physically exhausting for a big bloke like myself, but I really enjoyed it. Not just the hard work, but the company of the other forumites. There were seven of us, all working madly with chainsaws and mills on numerous different properties - Weisy was the only one with a camera, hopefully he will post the pic he took soon. We may have only touched the extent of timber in the valley, but I'm sure it all helps.

We all took home beautiful timbers. Today I took home a heap of large Blue Gum forks with what I hope is beautiful feather grain, adding to the heap of Blackwood I took last weekend. I'll take some pics tomorrow, it's a bit dark now. I've sealed all the logs, but there is a heap of work still to do cutting up blanks and perhaps a bit of rough turning if I have time.

There are a few of the group coming back tomorrow, Weisy will probably be there all week, there are a heap of big logs to mill up.

If anyone wants to score some free timber, there is still heaps to be had, it just takes a bit of effort.

I'm disappointed I couldn't make it. My extended family organised a get together yesterday for some photos and only expected it to take an hour or two, then I had planned to join you to help out. That hour or two turned into an all day affair.

Cheaky. It was all right for some who could drive straight up to the logs.

Yeh sorry about that, but I was trying to help Dennis, and all the logs on his property were hard to get to. The so called access road turned into a soft bog track, it was almost impossible to walk through, let alone drive on . Mind you, I still think his blue had the best forks, hope I can finish them and do them justice. I'll probably go back after Easter, that's the next time I'll get back there, for that 4' dia x 2.4m blue with a giant fork we left behind. I'll make one of the fork bowls and a few pens for Dennis, he will just have till wait a year or so to get them

Chooks was going back today. Still plenty of help needed and timber to be had.

Sounds like Cyc Larry again, the sound of saws going for weeks/months the SES(EMQ) requested 700 C/saws I'm not sure how many they got but I can tell u one day all you could here and smell was the sounds and smells of two strokes and lines of trucks removing waste.

I flew over most of the cyclone areas ( Rescue 510) multiple times over the next few months and the amount of timber down was beyond belief AND still there on a few friends farms waiting for me in gullies and on mountains getting to them is the issue.

Some of the timber photos. The Blue gum crutches and a close up (all have feather grain ), 5 logs of Black Wattle (up to 500 dia and around 1.2m long), a couple of Black wattle burls from 1 tree, and a piece of Tallowood (thanks Chook). The last shot is what was left of my brand new skip chain when I hit something in the second log when splitting it down the middle freehand, I had to grind off at least 1mm to get teeth again . I couldn't see anything in the log, and the fork was from at least 10m up .
