Timber species used in tile roof battens 50 years ago?
I've been given a bunch of old battens after a tile roof was recently replaced in Melbourne but I'm unsure what species it is - there is a reddish tinge to it but it doesn't look like red gum - does anyone have any ideas? Its drier than dry!

Unusual choice for battens. Normally battens for a tile roof were (and still are) rough sawn hardwood. I have seen Oregon used for corrugated iron and these can have a reddish tinge
