Thread: First time milling with bandsaw

Great going on the milling.

Great result, especially for a first effort!!

Wood looks good

Here are a few tips about stacking.
Use strips (stickers) that are at least 3/4" thick otherwise the wood may go mouldy
Make sure the stickers are exactly above each other.
Although gaffer tape won't apply much pressure any tension should be applied across the stickers or you may bend the slabs.

Thanks for the advice BobL, I had wondered if the stacking needed to be done differently. Can I expect much movement from planks this short? the longest one is about 450mm. I cut them 20mm thick (give or take!)

Maybe, maybe not. My experience is the thinner they are the more likely they are to move.

I am starting to get a little annoyed now.

First, Bob used to go once a year on a milling holiday and we would sit idle in anticipation of his next trip. Now it seems he has nothing better to do than mill timber, carve turtles, build sheds, play with a new bandsaw!!!!!!!!!

Too much time playing, I reckon retirees should be banned from these forums
