Ok here it is once again am confused I needed to know if Raw Linseed oil is Toxic or is boiled linseed oil toxic? and can it be used to seal end grain? some say boiled is ok and some have said raw is ok so, please I would really appreciate your input and your knowledge on which one is non toxic, also at a later time I will post a picture for Tree ID, I have a log I picked up off a guy down the road looks like a pine but not sure what sort, will post it later.

Neither oil will do the job at hand - which is to seal the end grain of your log.

Either get some Mobil Seal, PVA or almost any paint and you will do a lot better.

As Jefferson said, use paint. Any old paint is probably OK. The proprietary products are thick providing a good seal to protect the end of the log. If you use old paint (a really good use of those old half full tins you can't bring yourself to throw away but will never use) put multiple coats on as thick as the paint will allow.

Regarding linseed oil and boiled oil I am not sure if they are toxic, but a lot depends on what is meant by toxic. In their pure forms thy are called flaxseed oil which has medicinal properties and can be taken internally. However, if not used fairly quickly (less than 12 months) it goes rancid and should not be consumed.

I think linseed oil and boiled linseed oil are in that category. Boiled linseed oil will dry out but linseed oil tends to remain wet or at least sticky for a long time.

Boiled linseed oil usually has driers added which are not good for you. Raw linseed oil is in the pure form and is not toxic, as said raw linseed is very slow drying especially in low temperatures.

Thank You Bushmiller and J.B.W. will keep that in mind and yes I have plenty of paint sitting in my small shed, I didn't realise it was that easy to seal the logs lol all this time I've wondered how to seal them. Thanks again.
