Default Trouble starting Lucas Mill - any help?

    Hi Guys
Today I thought I would crank up my mill (6-18 Lucas), but could not get the thing started.

I must admit that I have had it siting idle for some time through the winter although with the engine covered.
Also have to admit also that I am not that experienced with the thing in the first place.

Did all the checks - limiting switch , Battery, even made sure it had fuel - but the thing wont start. Turns over but just doesn't fire up . . ..

Anybody have any off the rack suggestions to help out .. ?

But had a nice day anyway setting fire to the property and getting some good burning done and clearing out a lot of leaf litter.seeing as how I have given myself a two day break from furniture making

check if you have spark at the plugs then if you didnt run it out of fuel when you parked it up you may have stale fuel gone hard in the carby causing a blockage, has happened to me (try some areo start) if it fires and dosent pick up the fuel and run look for a carby blockage
    hope this helps

If it doesnt at least fire, check your spark. If it fires and doesnt run its carbi cleanin time All small engines are the same, the worst i have found were hondas. If you didnt turn the fuel off or run them dry if you dont use them often it was always clean the fuel bowl, new fuel and off you go.

Stupid possibly, but have you checked that your water container/blade cover is properly seated? There is a kill switch under the water container that cuts the coil if it's not properly seated.
    Cheers,

Remove your spark plug and check for condensation/water droplets on it, had this with the B&S Vanguard on my bandsaw a couple of years ago after not being used over winter.

Ended up being with condensation in the fuel tank which resulted in water in the fuel filter and fuel bowl/jets of carby.

Needed to remove tank drain and flush, replace fuel filter, strip carby and clean to remove all traces of water.

    Cheers guys

Thanks for all the help - will look at Plug, carby etc today.

Although it seems that I am expected to head over to Balingup for lunch at the pub instead of "playing" with the mill . . .!!

Appreciate all the suggestions and help.

    Ta Craig
I remembered that there was a kill switch under there . . eventually.
But I have checked that one.

3 things you need to check - Air, Fire, Fuel.

The "F's" have all been well covered above and I concur.

It's embarrassing and a pita though if the "A" is the problem and you've headed off after "F's" without doing it 1st.

    FWIW

The only time mine won't start is under similar conditions, left for a few months in winter with only a cover over it, it is always a bit of water in carb, filter and tank. I do put it in the shed now

WD40 or similar is nearly as good as aero start on petrol engines just to get a little sign of life in them.

The lads seem to have this one covered, if she's turning over fine, then the battery is good, either a cut out is stopping it firing up, spark not happening or the fuel is off.

Good luck with it and remember to fill us in on what you work out
I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

Thanks every one for the help.
Ended up taking it round the road to a mechanic mate - and you were mostly all correct . . . ###### fuel after sitting for so long throught the winter.

He drained it , cleaned carby air filter etc and now she runs mostly bang on.
Apart from today when slicing up a Marri log - the throttle seems to reset to have revs under load and i had to hol it up to keep revs up whilst cutting . . .

    Cheers
