    Default Weekend slabbing effort

    Hi all,

Thought I would post the reults from some slabbing on the week-end. The timber is unknown at this stage and I hope someone may be able to tell me what it is. The little information I have about the tree that it is around 35 years old is that it is a rainforest tree which has a small white flower and produces a seed pod the size of a small avacado which has 3 ribs around it's circumference running up the length of the pod if that makes any sense. The wood is dense and quite heavy. It seems to be very stable and hasn't shown any signs of cracking. It would be great to find out what it is if possible.

Mate, I live in WA, so I have no idea of the timber.

However, what I would like to comment on is the high quality of your post, your description of the tree and the photos. With the description you gave, I would imagine it is very easy for someone familar with the area to name the timber.

    Cheers

Thanks Willy for your comments, still trying to find out what it is.

    Default Tree Species

Hi, I'm new to the forum anf came across your thread while looking for someone to mill my spotted gum tree.

Did the leaves of your tree have a strong lemon scent?
The leaves and bark look like a Lemon Scented Myrtle but its hard to say.

    Not Lemon Scented Myrtle, Will.
It doesn't have a seed pod anything like the size of a small avocado. It's just the matured flower calyx.

    Hi Willcall,

The one thing I didn't do was crunch up a leaf to see what it smelt like.

    Cheers,
    Nev.

Did a little surfing and think it could be this. Qld. Silver Ash

Flindersia bourjotiana (Silver ash, Queensland silver ash) - JCU

If it is Silver Ash, you've got yourself a good tree there.

    Hi Will,

Appreciate your efforts, I will pass this on to the owner of the tree to see if this is what the seed pod looked like......... I haven't seen the pod and was only going by his description.
The wood is turning a nice light tan colour as it is drying and still no sign of cracking.

    cheers,
    Nev.

    Hi All,

I had an e-mail from TTIT suggesting that the timber may be Honduras Mahogany so I sent it to the owner of the tree who confirmed the pod matched the one in the e-mail, so thanks to all that replied and now I can rest easy knowing what it is I'm using.

    Cheers,
    Nev
