    Default weisys saw bench WIP

so i picked up some bits for my new resaw banch today.

i got a spindle from an old sawmiller yesterday so thaught id pull my finger out and get this thing built. iv got an old 3 phase motor sitting in the shed.

i got a new pulley for the spindle shaft. the motor runs at 1420rpm and i need aprox 2200rpm on the saw. the motor has a 145mm pulley and i got a 100mm pulley should give me about teh right speed. if my maths is ok.

go a 16", 36tooth, 3mm kerf sawblade from peacock saws. boy its sharp. and good steel it rings really well.

then some 42mm and 34mm gal tube for the infeed outfeed rollers. i got gal cos its cheeper than black?

    spindle - free
    Pulley & belts - $110
    blade - $117
    tube - $84
    motor - free

if i get this thing going properly i should get a lot more timber from what was pushed over the bank now.

the other pick is where its going along teh side of the shed.

its maily for resawing stock so i dont have to stock every size.

what i have been doing is milling 8X1 8X2 and 8X3. witch i will resaw when someone wants it.

also if i run down my flitches into sompthing useable instead of fire wood.

i can go up to an 18" blade but any bigger i have to buy a new motor and bigger spindle at great cost.

the bench saw motor wont be that big.

teh mill up here had a 10hp deisel running the breakdown saw it was a big saw.

teh moggil mill had a 80hp motor running the genny to run all teh saws.

i might be getting an old 3 blade canadian shortly. if things keep going the ay they are. i was going to buy the new 10" lucas but i can cut a lot more in a day with a 3 head canadian,a good breakdown saw and a few extra blokes.

The laws changed a few years ago, you don't need a licence

you dont need a licence to operate a sawmill but u need a ticket to operate each type of saw bench to be coverd by insurance. just the same as a chaisnaw.

Had a similar setup myself a few years back. 3 knee canadian carriage with dunstan hydraulic winch to move the carriage through the saw. All powered by a leyland bus motor - 120hp when all cylinders fired.
The flitches of this saw went across timber skids to the bench. It was also driven by an old leyland. It was a good setup.
All worked well as long as we worked well.

    cheers
    Steve
