But if you got the message out more effectively? I mean if there was a page with information about what to ask the lopper, what to do with the tree, what groups might be interested...

And then a simple way to register interest. If you want to share your passion you have to make it accessible. Where are the web sites for clubs?

My interest is flying, was Linux. I do my flying club's blog. srfc.org.au

I like sharing experiences. If you love your craft you'll want to share it too.

The BBQ offer is still there if people can band together and sort it out amongst yourselves. Only thing I ask is don't cherry pick and leave me with the too hard stuff.

More details on the access: the lane behind is 5m wide road surface, 5.6 m wide fence to fence.

    Oh yeah, no possum boxes...

What you see is what you get.

With those blokes, 99% of the time it's not what just you say but how you say it and how many cartons you happen to be carrying in the back of the ute.

You also need to consider that us dumb tree loppers who cant operate something as technical as a LUCAS MILL, may find it better for bisness to get the job wrapped up in the day rather than wait a week+ for the miller to do his thing. I'm sure you would do it Allan and I know Carl certainly cleans up the flitches after hes done, but if they were my customer's and my reputation at stake (as far as the customer is concerned the miller is a subbie to me), I would want/ need to keep that job on the books till the miller was finished (or decided that the log is not what he's after and then I go back and clean up). Sure we can hire a crane truck at $80/hr (min of 2hr) and possiblly get paid $150-200/cube but I can understand other tree loppers wanting to keep it simple (in line with our mental capacity) and just shred it and get $15 a cube for mulch. Ok so you got the bite you were so innocently fishing for. Do you think this thread may of been hijacked?

    maby just a little bit

i was not implying that loppers were dumb.

and i do understand why they just block it up and move on.

but if they gave us a chance instead of saying that its to hard they would not have to pay wages to block the log up.

if i get a call a log is coming down i will have a truck waiting to pick it up before its on the ground.

got a 15 ton load coming out on Friday from a mob in sallsbry that i have got over 200 cube from.

alright boys back on topic. who wants some firewood/turning blanks.

I don't think you've hijacked the thread. I think Stumpkicker has perhaps re-inforced my point. If you get consumers interested in what happens, then they are more than happy for a good outcome.

Weisy, you rang and haranged, but there's an easier way. Every day instead of using the yellow pages people are entering the words 'tree lopper' into their google search bar.

How do I know? Search for google adwords, then follow the links to the google adwords keyword tool (sorry, the direct link is a monster). Enter 'tree lopper' and reduce to australia. Something like the following table will come up:

Keyword: No of local (Aus) searches per month
    tree pruner 720
    tree lopper 1,600
    tree loppers 2,400
    tree lopping 9,900
    tree pruners 210
    tree arborist 720
    tree removers 73

    other words:
    tree removal service
    tree removal services
    removal of trees
    tree stump grinder

I'm not suggesting placing ads, just have some great information on some pages and some, just some, of those 9000 searches every month in Australia are going to be inspired by what you do and ask their lopper to maybe cut the tree down but leave nice lengths for my mate weisy.

Anyway, easy for me to say isn't it. No need to wait for national broadband.

Maybe someone does those fabulous chain saw carvings? My flying club would love an angel with wings we could nervously rub on the way to the runway.

    Jamie
