How wide ?
I have a friend who had a tree fall recently on his property, the main truck is 5' in width and 5 metres long. Will the average lucas mill handle the width of this tree without the need to waste some of the side of the tree to accomodate it into the milling frame.

i know mine will fit over it.
its a 8/25.
im pretty sure you will fit it under any Lucas but the slabbing width of the mills vary. i can do 1.5m 5' but the small ones can i don't think.
if ya thinking it getting it milled give us a ring my number is at the bottom in my signature.

What did you want out of it Chipbreaker? Boards or slabs? for slabs you'll need nothing smaller than a 8" with attachment or a dedicated slabber, if you want boards any will slice it up.
Same as Carl mate, if you need someone to slice it up let us know, Exador (aka Craig) is in here somewhere too - probably others that can slice her up as well.
Oh almost forgot; post some piccy's - do you know what the tree is?Last edited by Sigidi; 26th November 2008 at 10:50 AM. Reason: cause I felt like it

I believe they want slabs from the tree. Not 100% about the type of tree but currently leaning towards a Corymbia Tessellaris, Carbeen / Moreton Bay Ash. I have a further question, how long would it take to slab up a tree of this size (trunk only)

Carbeen aka M.B.A. is rated vary hard (1 on a scale of 1-6) and just over 1,000kg per cube and she's pretty wide - something 5' wide will really be a test and 5m long, that'd be a heavy old chunk of wood about 260kg for one 2" slab (it's actually wider than the DPI maintain it grows - they state carbeen grows up to 1m in diameter) Hopefully there will be lots of hands on deck come cutting time.
As for how long - a bit like a peice of string really, although given the above I wouldn't be expecting more than 2-3 slabs per hour. The cutting might be fast enough but the handling will be draw on without some kind of machinery.
hope it helpsI love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

plus you'd be wanting a freshly sharpened chain per slab too I'd reckon, might get 2 but if you get 2/3rds of the way through the 2nd one, you'll have to back the slabber out and swap a chain over and go again
Cheers

how long
In redgum 4.5 to5.5 m 1.5 to 1.8 m wide it was taking 20 to 30 mins per slab sometimes 2 chains others 1 chain per slab.Ive done 15 to 20 trees between 1.5 to 3 m diameter and thats about the average.
