Big day at the show
Well, had a good day at the show, though it is a bit smaller than before. Very crowded with schools today, though they all cleared out and it became very quiet by the time I took these photos.

There are more photos attached and more to come (when I re-size them) if people are interested.
It was great to meet all the friendly forum members and, between us, we had some very positive responses from people about joining the forums.
Now to reflect on all that lovely machinery and digest the relative merits, check the piggy bank and decide whether to go back tomorrow to take the plunge!

The best part of volunteering for part of the day is getting to put faces to the names of other forum members and sharing ideas and techniques.
Have a great show to all who attend.
Regards Rod.

Dave, that hat of yours has seen a few miles. Is it a Stetson brand?

Tea & Coffee.
This year the Tea & Coffee etc is being supplied and paid for by Woodwork Forums (not by the show organisers). So.... At $200 per day plus more $'s for refills, I'd like to think you get value for our money. Make sure you all drink up.
Enjoy.
Cheers - Neil
PS if anyone feels they'd like to donate some bickies for the workers and guests, please do. I'm sure they'll be appreciated.

Well I had a pretty good day, and enjoyed the excellent company of some of our member-helpers as well as quite a few Forumites who dropped by. We started out with only a couple of spare chairs for visitors, and no coffee pot, but thanks to some stirring from afar by Neill, that got fixed after some fussing about to get them powered. So the Saturday crew should be enjoying the proper creature-comforts!
It was a pretty busy morning, but things got quieter by mid-afternoon & I was able to go fossicking in the woodpiles across the way from our stand. Paul (Bushmiller) drew my attention a nice piece of Tulip-oak, and a wood I'd never heard of before, Dillenia. We shared a lump of Dillenia & I decided I had to add the Tulip oak to my collection of bits under the house as well.

The Dillenia is an import from somewhere to the north of us. It's a deep brown, with prominent ray-fleck that on some cuts gives it a snake-skin-like appearance: Dillenia.jpg
The Tulip oak is home-grown. Not sure which particular one this is (Blush or Brown), but it has some quite nice fiddleback figure:

I'm going to try both for saw-handles, among other things, depending on how well they finish.
Apart from a few other bits & bobs like some glue & scroll-saw blades, I got out of the day without too much damage to the wallet. Only downer was the drive home - something happened on the western freeway that thoroughly choked the Friday afternoon traffic & it too me 2 hours to get home instead of 35 minutes...

I just want to wish all the Forumites to have a great time at the Wood Show!!!
The year didn't start off well for me so I thought I wouldn't go to Brissy but I could get to Sydney in July......the Wood Show is always late in July....isn't it? Well to my dismay the Wood Show is early this year and over the weekend of my 60th birthday in June which means I have to attend the birthday bash
I will have to be content with browsing catalogues instead of the stands that are on show at the shows
To Neil and Pauline, enjoy the time you have given yourselves and thanks for the booths at all the shows for us ForumitesJust do it!
Kind regards Rod

OOOHHH Christos....you are a cruel man. I think I would rather be blissfully ignorant of what new things were on offer.....oh the pain.... (sickening isn't it)
Living here near Tamworth, it is nearly half way between Syd and Bris, that's why I was at last year's Brissy show. There is always Canberra and Melbourne ???? well maybe not Melb. Failing all them 2015 isn't that far away. Wasn't Christmas 3 or 4 weeks ago??
Have a great time at which ever you can get to.Just do it!
Kind regards Rod
