CANBERRA Forum Stand - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers needed to help man the FORUM STAND at the 2012 Canberra Timber and Working With Wood Show at Exhibition Park 31 August, 1 & 2 September 2012
Once again we will be hosting the Forum Lounge thanks to the generosity of Impressive Exhibitions.
However to make it work we need volunteers to man the stand for short periods over the three days and more importantly we need someone prepared to organise the volunteers, roster, setup, etc.
- All volunteers get free admission to the show.
- The organiser not only gets free admission, but also all the hassles, joys and rewards that go with any organising job
Any volunteers please put your names down in this thread and anyone stupid brave enough to want the organisers job please speak up.
Others who have gone before will be glad to help with any info or advice you may need.
Cheers - Neil

Would be nice to see a few more locals on the stand. I know there's a good number who use the members special entry price coupon. Maybe we need to make the cheap entry coupon only available to those prepared to help out on the stand for a little while.

I'm a canberran and going. I'd like to volunteer. What are we doing? I've read the info and must be thick, but I don't understand what "the gig" is.
Can anyone explain?

If I'm in Canberra that weekend then I will be good to go, just have to confirm where I'm going to be before putting my hand all the way up
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

To borrow some of the words of member gawdelpus
It is not onerous at all, just talking and explaining the benefits and advantages of being a member of this Woodworking forum and handing out leaflets. It is a casual affair with a lounge and seating (coffee) as well for forum members, The biggest challenge is to set up the whole deal, possibly on a Thursday, and then pack up on the Sunday. Most of the set up is done by me on the Wednesday/Thursday. If I run out of time there may be some banners and small signs to put up. These are all veldroed to the walls so not hard work.
There will be a computer set up in the display area running a Power Point presentation and on line direct to the forums, so easy to demonstrate and show people what its all about. There is plenty of time to wander the rest of the exhibits and empty the wallet.
Help with pulling signs and banners down and packing up on the Sunday evening would be a really big help and saves us lots of time as we have the U-Beaut Stand to pull down and can't spare the time to do the forum stand as well.
That's about it.
Cheers - Neil
PS You don't have to dress up in your Sunday best for this gig but it's preferable that those on the stand are presentable and not in dirty work gear or shorts, singlets and thongs, etc.
If you have a forum cap, polo or shirt it would be good to wear them as a form of identification with the stand (not mandatory).
We will have caps for sale over the weekend.

Moving to the South Coast put the Sydney show out for me, but Canberra would be good. Is there camping available in the Exhibition Centre's grounds over the duration?

volunteering
I'm happy to put in some time on Friday as I intend attending the show that day, and happy to help out packing up on Sunday afternoon.
Also, happy to stick my hand up to do up a roster & organise, if there are no other takers. I assume all correspondence will be via email re organising.
