    Thumbs up

Does anyone know if Tasmanian Timbers (not sure of the actual name) will be there this year?

Still it's dissapointing that some exhibitors won't be there. This is the one opportunity to see some of the tools first-hand and experience buying something directly, in person, from the vendor vs online.

I was involved in transporting and setting up a stand for a select timber supplier at the first show at the Showgrounds and I can very comfortably tell you that it was around the $20k mark for him to set it all up and then pack it all up.

I do know that he didn’t make any money, it was all about advertising

Yeah, and that's bloody ridiculous for the amount of work....to make no dough. There's gotta be easier ways to spend $20k on advertising.....

I suspect that may be a reason why some of the regional shows could start doing well, such as the Illawarra Wood Show in October(?) which is in Bulli, a little south of Sydney. Good for people on the south side of Sydney, but a bit of a hike for for the Norf Siders.

I know of a store that that got a stand at the Melbourne show about 8/9 years ago as a fill in for one that had withdrawn at short notice. They got it at half price and still had to pay $6k.

I wonder what it would be now.

It's now 2 weeks away from the opening of the Melbourne show and no indication yet on the website of any exhibitors or demos.

Strange and not helpful in getting a big crowd.

Peter I'm pretty sure the new owners are keen to learn, so maybe if you send an email to Candy at [email protected] and let her know that the message isn't getting out. Maybe she can provide you with a link to publish.

Having said that.......I would have thought it would be a no-brainer for them to become a forum member and/or sponsor (so they get their own sub-forum) and then talk it up. This IS the largest electronic gathering of woodworkers in the country....innit? Just a thought.

    No.

I spoke to him (and bought off him early this week) when he was here in Melbourne.

Even though I live in Williamstown is it going to be worth my while to walk down there? The reno's to the venue look great but with the apparent lack of exhibitors, and recent years haven't been great, it seems to be a non starter

Aw man. That was the #1 draw for me . I'll still go I think, but it may be a very brief visit.

IMHO this close to the show there aught to be no need of having to ask the right questions to the right people.

They should by now be readily available on their website (which I could only find via their FB page and can not be found via a Google search ) and publicized both on these forums and on their F/B page which only urges attendance but no details of what to see and do at the show.

Also there is a dearth of information about parking at the venue and I wonder who in this day and age would chose a inner city location without adequate parking.

I know I'm old and old-fashioned but I believe it should be up to the owners to make all this known and not for me to chase it.

    Interesting.

The owner must have changed his mind from when I spoke to him in person on Sunday.

Maybe the show organisers, made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

    That's good news!

I recall him telling me last year that the organisers had to twist his arm quite a bit and that it was likely to be his last one. Thankfully he's decided to make another appearance. Guess I know where the money reserved for another LN plane is going now .

    Cheers, Dom
