I think that is it, 4 trips back to the car. Car parking cost $15 and I was there over 5 hours.

The most fun was meeting the people that inhabit this board

PS Neil, I can report that Chris was doing his job to promote ( or is that convert people to ) you products.
No wonder you were hungry back and forwards to the car

Forget anything Pat just give me a call and I'll ask Wongo to use his Gold Card to buy it

Hi Guys, I was at the show on Friday on the Woodwork Association of NSW stand watching people pat my side table, will be back again tomorrow if anyone wants to stop by and say hi . I will be going under my alias of "Mark" tomorrow though. Got some good purchases in on Friday, Chris Vesper marking knife and carving knife, chisels, some nice turning blanks, yet another large slab of Rosewood and some other nice trinkets. And lots of talk all, in all it was a top day.Hope Sunday is the same, not as much money to spend this time round though.

Enjoyed Friday. As Pat said, catching up with the troops for lunch was fun. Even though Scott blew it on the eating place. Not a bad day:
Heap of early back issues of Australian Woodsmith to fill the gaps in my collection.
The Impractical Cabinetmaker by James Krenov ( will go with my Fine Art of Cabinetmaking by JK)
    Router bit
    Scratch Awl
    Some sassafras for boxes
    Giffkins box joint template

Even went home with money in my pocket

Scally, 1 of the few things on my list that I didn't get from SWWW was the VRS, mostly because I didnt see any. Who had them for sale?

Like BobR and many others I enjoyed myself on Friday.
Had time for a long chat with Trent (maker of Harold & Saxon chisels) — it sounds as though it'll be a year or more before he starts making some fine paring chisels
caught up with Colin Clenton — always an enjoyable chat
browsed the Festo, Metabo, Fein and Fielder stands
looked at the fine work in the Hordon Pavilion and the timber displays
and spent a small fortune at the Lie Neilsen stand
went home with some 90° assembly brackets from Professional Woodworkers Supplies and a #8 and #4

    hope to go again tomorrow

what I was really impressed by were the precut box packs being sold in the entrance to the Hordon Pavilion.
what a great idea — flat pack kits with pre-cut dovetail joints with everything sanded — the buyer just needs to assemble and finished at a price not too much more than Ikea

    I cheated a bit Fletty.

In February I ordered the VRS and twin screw vice extension from Carbatec. They rang me last week to tell me they had arrived. This nicely coincided with the show and their 10 percent off.

You should be able to buy or order them from Carbatec tomorrow and get the same deal.

Did you notice my fancy Incra router table plate?.......It is about 10mm shorter than the cheap one I have in the table.
I will need to bodgy up the gap.

    thanks Scally,
That Incra plate looks shorter AND thicker, it will be an interesting bodging job!
I spent 5 hours there on Friday but, reading all of these posts, I missed a lot so will probably use the after 2 free ticket and go back today!

Holly smoke what a Sunday one minute quiet as next people everywhere could have been the rain which dampened Mal & Gregs wood and made it look excellent. Sorry Greg no time to take a photo of the wood only one of you.

Got a shot of Bret & Mrs Bret, Christopher and Jim Carrol.

Spoke to Ruddigar and promised when he came to visit OTGA stand I'd e down to see the Sawstop show at 4 but couldn't get away sorry but thanks for the chat.

Wayne Hardnefast came in said hello a couple of times was my first impression I was expecting a younger fella he got the low down on some home made tools fro David Laird.

Then this fella walks up says Hi didn't know who him at first appologies ZARGULD/Guy hope you enjoyed the show. Now mind you take a look at WHO started the thread guess who I had to ring to remind him the TSWWWS was on

Fletty returned on his free entry ticket then reminded him at $1.70 a ltr for fuel and $12 parking and his spending spree they got there money's worth ou of his return.

Claw Hammer I missed and I was only the other side of the room

Scott Wongo returned not a happy chappy his horse didn't do as well as everyone expected I thought the others were no where near as good but he did get a 3rd place for his table.

LOML spent much of Sunday learning miniature turning again another couple of goblets
    there goes my lathe
then she was dragged off to be shown how to do the oval turning then onto the Rose Engine.

Pack up time came Stan from Mullumbimby Timbers who put on shows next to the OTGA stand all weekend getting people to use the old hand saws demoing chain saws and bandsaws, came over and handed her a box to put her miniatures in when she opened it to find a small set of turning tools. Not to mention Stan's scraps of Cedar and Tassie Black Wattle logs. Thanks Stan

Me finally after sharpening tools in day light I had saw dust n chips on the floor.

I/we got some shopping time although hurried sand paper, pen parts from Jim Carrol, 100mm jaws & pink 6" sharpening stone to replace my 25 year old 3m one from Gary Pye a hand drill device from McJings.

Trtion's prices dropped late afternoon as did GMC's and much of the timber nope didn't buy a thing budget only goes so far

Geez.... no updates since the Sunday morning of the show! Slackers!!! My thoughts:

The crowd seemed down, although this is the first time I've been on a Sunday so this may be usual. The smaller stands from Timbecon and Carbatec (expecially Carbatec - they must have been a tenth of their usual size) seemed to make the show seem smaller. I didn't notice many people in the Carbatec stand, not sure if its related to their reduced size.

I stopped by Jim Carroll's stand and spent big on the UBeaut gear and still need to mailorder a few bits 'n bobs frmo Jim. I picked up a few turning blanks (huon, leatherwood, tiger myrtle) and a timber box set (purple heart).

Bought another Richard Raffan book (bowl turning) and a P&N 1" skew chisel with a handle blank (just didn't seem worth the extra $30 to purchase a chisel with a handle when the blanks [usually $6] were free with an unhandled chisel). Luckily one of Raffan's demo's was on turning a chisel handle (By the way, I'm still not game enough to rough down a square spindle using a skew chisel... I'll settle for my bowl gauge in the absence of a roughing gauge at the moment).

The Richard Vaughan seminar on planes was fantastic, very worthwhile for a plane-a-phobic like me. His session on torsion boxes was also fantastic, and good timing considering I want to use torsion boxes in bookshelf shelves.

There were some very good pieces of work for sale in the second hall, for seemingly giveaway prices. My dad bought a few bowls and the like - good to support the other guys who put in their efforts for the show. The exhibition/competition pieces were amazing, as well as some of the Year 12 school works - there's some great talent and high quality work in that hall!

Overall the show was good, but the main pavilion just didn't seem as busy. I even came home with a few notes left in my wallet - the wife thinks I must be sick. I'll just tuck them away for the Canberra show.

    Cheers,
    Nathan.

Nathan so you were in the Hordon Pavillion checking out all the stands and stuff why didn't you say G'day at the OTGA stand, did you see the old fella who looked like Merlin turning miniatures or the female my LOML or me sitting at the Jet Mini Lathe , the old guy doing Oval turning.

Guess not bit like my early post re-sunday I did this morning

Yes many of the stand were either smaller or non-exsistant but the cost of the stands has apparently boomed. Then numbers down fuel prices and mortgage rates would have a lot to do with that.

Well, for my 2 bob's worth, I had a great time(s). Friday morning I decided to be late for work and checked out the used stuff for sale in case there was anything I needed. Saturday I spent most of the day there and caught a few of the seminars and made the "must have" purchases. Sunday I went back and picked up some timber that I can destroy later.

The one thing that impressed me most was the attitude and friendliness of the stall holders. They are obviously there to promote their wares and make sales, but at each stand I visited, they would always take the time to have a chat and answer questions that they've probably heard 1000 times before.

A lesson from Chris Vesper on hand cut dovetails, a sharpening lesson from Jim Davey at the TTTG stand. Priceless!

A highlight of the show other than meeting many forumites was watching OTGA member Col Hemming who does the miniatures prove that any tool can be used as a Skew he had been given a challenge and handed a Tom-e-hawke and on his tiny lathe produced a work of tiny proportions No photos but I do have Video.

I finally got photo's off the camera some forumites who help make the show great

    Greg Ward Mal's Boutique Timbers
    Christopher U-Beaut Polishes
    Jim Carrol Carrol's Woodcraft Supplies

Oh have special video of Chris and his stylish application of U-beaut Polishes
