Hi Wheelinround,
Your post wasn't up when I started typing mine.
Sorry, I didn't know you were in the woodturning area - otherwise I would have introduced myself (I was working up until Sat night so didn't get a chance to check the posts on here).
The old fella who looks like Merlin turning miniatures - my father and I spoke to him for a little while. I think his name was Colin? The work that he turns out is amazing. We were gobsmacked looking in his cabinet at his small turnings, then he pulls out a small plastic container with 3 TINY TINY turnings in it! AMAZING! Colin also showed us the lathe made out of timber, that was great to see aswell.
It was pretty early in the morning (just after 10) and the oval turning lathe and rose engine lathe weren't up and running yet.
Pity about the cost of stands going up - I assumed this may be the cause. Hopefully the organisers realise that this will eventually drive the stallholders away, and we know what will happen after that...

Scribbly and I made the trip down testerday (4.30am start)and had a ball.
He scoured the second hand sections.
I finally got as pull saw for my anglemag, ordered my bandsaw from carbatec along with a few spare blades and a veritas marking guage.
WATCHED THE SENSITIVE NEW AGE GUY and his amazing blade destroyer.
Scribbly embarrassed me by showing up the shortcomings in my powers of description. I'd forgotten that the term for the handle on a shooting board plane is hot dog.
Wanted to buy some hold downs from Michael Connor, but he wasn't there.
The highlight for me (apart from seeing Scotty's horse and that beeeeautiful huon pine boat) was meeting Trent and Mandy from Harold and Saxon.
I couldn't afford to buy anything from them, (lucky I bought the bandsaw before I went to see them, but now that I've seen them in the wood, the covenant is sealed in blood, I just have to save like mad to actually buy lots of their beautiful chisels.Even the Lie Neilsens look drab by comparison. Ringed gidgee is sooooooo beautiful.
Noticed a definite decline in number of people there from previous years, both stall holders and customers, is the writing on the wall?Cheers
Jim

Jim, so you were at the show. Thanks for letting me know. You are rude.
I didn't buy much this year. I got some veneer, sanding discs and 4 bessey K-60 clamps for only $200 an hour before the show closed. I am very happy with it.Visit my website at www.myFineWoodWork.com

Called in again on Sunday for a more relaxed wander and took in Mr Raffan's "Taming the Skew" demo - not sure that it will help my tortured technique much, but it can't hurt.
Met up with Ray (Wheelin) and his missus - who somehow seems to be far too good looking for him. Both of them were busy, busy... churning out little round objects and smaller round objects. Some fascinating stuff there at the ornamental turner's stand.
Can't say that I agree with the choices for prize winners in the competitions - but what do I know? Didn't end up spending too much - a nice big 38mm x 10mm scraper from Gary Pye - some more Shellawax and potpourie covers from Carrols. About $150 all up which I thought was pretty good value.
All in all another good show, I thought. Only 360 days to go.Don't Just Do It.... Do It HardenFast!!

Wongo, I look forward to seeing your stuff at the show, and hope you put something in next year. Was a bit time challenged this year and slipped in and out quickly with just a bit of Tas Blackwood, a few clamps, and some ideas, but your table was a real high light of the show.
The judges seem to like mixing timbers, but personally I prefer a piece like yours. Well done.
I only wish I had the skill to put something in the show....
