I ended up arriving about 2pm on Friday & the place seemed dead as a Dodo. Had real trouble getting any staff to answer questions, most seemed to either be on tranquilisers & drooling, or too busy yakking to their mates. Needless to say, the ones who were awake got some $$$ - probably about $500 all up, but I had walked in with over $4,000 cash to spend and took most of it home to put back in the safe.

It looked like a lot of stands were missing or much smaller - less book vendors and 2 of the old tent mob were inside now, a few old familiar faces were missing.

Well I had a great day. Met up with Alex, Andrew, Pat, ex-Felder, BobR, Fletty and graemet.

I bought 2 boards of Huon pine, some Camphor, a router plate from woodpeckers, a LN chisel, 5 AWR for $20 and 10 sheets for Jarrah veneer. .

And to top it up, I got home and someone from the show rang. My rocking chair has won the second prize in the general woodworking category. You beauty.

Congratulations Mr Wongo - great transformation of "wood to good" - do you know what came first - was that upright musical instrument looking thing in the background?

$100 in product or gift vouchers.

What I do understanding is I entered in the open novice category. It is a far smaller group which means I would have a better chance to get the first prize ($500 cash). Not being picky but…

Either way I am very pleased with it.

Great stuff Scott! I'm planning on having a geezer at it and lots of other stuff tomorrow.

I'd hoped to go this morning, and maybe meet some of the other forumites but had to go to a meeting organized at the last minute

I did manage to sneak out and drop in this afternoon - but meant I only had an hour and a half - didn't see anybody wearing a forum cap - but then I was too busy looking at tools to notice anyone else there

Managed to pick up a few nice things in that time though - top of the list was an Incra LS system . Can't wait to get back now!

Congratulations Wongo! It certainly is a good looking piece.
And thanks for posting the photos of the other members too, however I think details of their eating habits could be avoided!.

No mate, not what you won but rather, what piece won.

There were some very good examples of WW in the comp. Alex's boxes for instance.

Congratulations Wongo. Its a cool rocker.

Why do they have such pathetic prizes? Its take a lot of effort first of all to make a quality piece of woodwork, then theres the time and money involved in getting it to display (transport, insurance etc) and the best they can stump up is $500 1st prize.

If it was America you probably would've won twin towers of Festool gear and a couple grand in your pocket.

That's because you arrived just after what seemed like a thousand school students left!

Good to see the schools getting involved - is this a regular thing?

Well done on the win Wongo. Congratulations.

I made it there today for only a couple of hours. Wore my forum cap but didn't run into anyone else wearing one. I'm heading back again tomorrow (Saturday) for a proper look. I plan on spending most of the day there.
    Regards,
    Ian.

    Default I went, I saw, I spent . . .

Another fun day at the toy show. Met up with some riff raff for lunch, after demolishing my shopping list at PWS (Woodpeckers). Gasweld had Bessey K 60's for $59 each, still better that another store's "discounted" price. The Ubeaut stand was nearly alwats busy with punters, but managed to say hello to Neil and Pauline and buy more supplies. Again, Wongo and I had "one last tour" which left both our wallets much lighter
