Sydney Wood Show is next month but is the forum having a stand??

The first I heard about this years show was in a post by Greg Ward and Boutique Timbers attendance, but nothing else.

    It's less that a month off - 23rd to 25th June 2017.

    I think its worth going

having said that each year i have a whine to myself as every year for a while, the quality of the Brisbane Show have seems to decline.

I'm guessing its the cost for vendors to rent space, hence less exhibitors.

I had a look at the Exhibitor list for Brisbane, not a lot, I'm hoping it just hasn't been updated.

I just enjoy the atmosphere, seeing new products, and maybe picking up something that catches my eye.

I just hope that it starts improving, or i can see it folding.

I am absolutely stunned to hear that it is next weekend. I had no idea. They must have lost the plot as I have been on their mailing list for years but haven't heard a peep from them. The show has been reducing in size every year and this year it looks like only one indoor shed is filled so that is disappointing. But, it still seems to have more emphasis on machinery than the Maleny Wood show so if you are looking for or comparing machinery it could be worthwhile.

The exhibitor list: http://www.impressiveexhibitions.com...itorlist17.pdf tells you a lot.

There are also some excellent timber suppliers as well as the machinery.

Only you can know whether it is worthwhile. For a newbie I would definitely recommend it. The fact that there are still so many suppliers in one place at one time could save you a small fortune in fuel and a lot of time. When I first went I found it overwhelming, but, being smaller it may well be easier to take in. Allow plenty of time and have a good rest in the middle. The food last year was absolutely s**tty so I will take my own this year.

Personally, I am sorry that so many of the 'Mexicans' (South of the border) are staying away with the notable and very welcome exception of a couple of quality acts including Boutique Timbers. Though, I would have liked to talk to Jim Carroll and others about their products - I guess it will have to be the speaking tube (telephone for you techno illiterates). The Forums stand will be a sad omission too, though I have found from working on the stand (volunteering) that most visitors don't understand the forums at all so I suspect that the expensive stand did not achieve many new members. It was a great opportunity to meet other wwf members though so will be sadly missed by me.

I have no inside knowledge, nor axe to grind, but maybe Impressive Exhibitions need to think about their business model/charges?

Its good to see that there are more exhibitors than when i looked at the website on the weekend, i see it was updated yesterday.

Still, i am bit disappointed, i would love to see it like it use to be

Hopefully the event organiser (Impressive Exhibitions) take some influence from their name and work out to a way to make it more impressive with more exhibitors in 2018

But As Xanthorrhoeas pointed out...i'm on the list as well, they didn't email me anything about the show, my wife told me as she when she was looking at some event at the RNA, and let me know when it was on.

people have to know that these events are on, or you are losing the battle before its started if you don't invite people on their list.

I thought I was on the mail list as well and have heard squat. I have two markets on next weekend and a very thin wallet at the moment. so I will prolly pass this year, the first in a long while. Previously I too have participated i the forum stand and am sad to see that it will not be there this year.

Marketeering and shows require a big effort to promote, but that has been made a lot easier these days with the advent of social media and paid promotion of same. Typically, conveners, these days, seem to be happy to take your money but seem hesitant to actively promote through modern channels. As an exhibitor you really need to ask yourself if you are getting value for your outlay to participate.

It's concerning that the methods to promote widen, and cost to promote lowers, but there is less promotion visible to the target market.

I went as a newbie to the Sydney show last year, and thought it worth going. I will probably go again this year, if I'm not sent away for work. As bryn23 and Xanthorrhoeas said you can browse around any of vendors and get that thing which you didn't know you needed. I got a shinto saw file from Japanese Tool Australia, which I used to good effect while trying to shape an vaguely aeroplane-shaped body out of a piece of pine. Sadly not yet completed.

I tried to find out if there was a Newcastle show this year, as some websites were suggesting, and weeks after it wasn't on, IE finally replied with a "sorry, missed your email, nah no show this year"
    Not very "Impressive", IMHO

Sadly I think the modern world has lost the need for exhibitions such as this to a large extent. When we lived a more closed life with little access to shops and buying online did not exist then exhibitions and shows made sense and were hugely popular. I mainly go to catch up with people and have a chat and actually rarely buy anything at all which sort of defeats the purpose of the whole thing. When I was in the position to be an exhibitor the costs were huge so that didn't happen either.

I have been an attendee for many years at the Melbourne show. There are only a couple of the big boys there now but they don't offer any super specials like they used to, probably because it costs them so much just to be there.
Nowadays I like to go to see the boutique suppliers such as HNT Gordon, Jim Davey, Henry Eckert etc as you can't see their wares in person many other ways.
It would be good to see the exhibitor's fees reduced so it would attract more of the smaller suppliers.

As others have said it costs a bomb to be an exhibitor, and that's if your business is in the same city as the show. If you're from interstate you're really only doing it to get your name out there, you'll probably make a loss! The costs keep going up, the exhibitors thin out and the attendees don't attend. As Chris Parks said it's a dying thing.

I'm surprised it's worth Jim Davey's while to go to Brisbane and who are Small Hand Tool Specialist?
