First time at Brisbane Show and enjoyed every minute
Started the weekend off with manning the forum stand for an hour on Friday morning, had some great talks with Darren from Bundaberg and Paul (not sure where from) Love the fact your all so willing to share your knowledge and expertise not to mention enthusiasm for wood and people in wood. Thanks guys.
Spent a heap at Jim Carrols stand but very very happy with his help, advice and down to earth common sense, even had a great happy smile, which is strange being as he is a Mexican LOL. (The smile probably came from being in the land of paradise, even if only for a short time) Looking forward to receiving my pro Edge sharpening system, makes it easy for a novice like me for sure. Thanks once again Jim for all the help.
Loved the demo's particularly from Neil at Eu-Beut got one of your systems too. Good stuff
Carba-Tec - would have liked to see you having power to your equipment, if for nothing else than to guage to noise factor of some of your gear against the Laguna and Jet models, both of which had power. Maybe worth while thinking about, I noticed a lot of interested people around their machines watching the demos of the jointer's and thicknesser's in particular. Still you got my folding stuff, so obviously still did the trick.
Like one other poster I am a bit perplexed, how do you get the slabs of timber from the show to home, if you don't have a Ute or truck? The parcel pick up on Sunday arvie by 2pm was deserted - waited 10 minutes then went to the Qld woodturning societies stand and asked a mate if I could leave my goods there for a short while rather than risk them being knocked off. Thanks guys, When I came back half an hour later, parcel pick up was still deserted. Not good.
Glad the show was not 5 days, I would be bankrupt!
Anyway all in all a happy experience, well laid out venue, Que on Friday a pain should be more booths taking money, but worth it. I will be back next year and will be putting my hand up for the stand again.

Good to hear Douglas. This is my first one in sydney in July. I'm getting some $$ together to get a new toy up there. I'll be taking the ute. I'll just be heading up for A day trip so i shouldnt go bankrupt. Hopefully lol
So you seen a bit of Laguna gear? Any bandsaw by any chance?

Only got back today
As the title suggests we got home at 4.00pm.
This was my third wwwshow. The first was in Sydney in 2000 then to Bris in 2003. (Yeh long time between drinks) then Bris this time 2days. Did a bit on the stand Friday and Saturday. I am not usually an "upfront person" but people who stopped to look were easy to talk to and to show what the Forum is all about. Met some new faces and reaquainted with some that I already had come across.
It was areal joy to meet Neil and Pauline. What a great couple. Got a phone call from Neil on Sunday night telling me I had won the Blue raffle! I never win anything!!! But now I am really chuffed. I had already picked up some wood turning waxes on The Saturday, now I will have quite a supply.
With all the shows I was like a kid in a lolly shop. Even though I have a lot of bigger equipment I still like to see what is new and to see if my 1950s machinery can compete with whats offering at the moment. I just love being around the whole scene. My pockets were lighter when we left.
Carba-Tec has always had an attraction for me but I was a little disappointed that they didn't have more on display but I remedied that by driving from Ipswich across to Wakerley on Tuesday morning through the traffic (didn't like that part). Wow what a shop!!! Spent more money. They have a good set up there. I told myself a long time ago to make the pilgrimage to the store and now I am glad I finally did.
My wife and I spent some time in Brisbane itself having a look about but the highlight would have to be buzzing over the water in those Citycats. The day couldn't have been better, weatherwise either.
All in all we had a great trip but glad to be out of the traffic and home. Now I will have to get all my new trinkets and introduce them to the rest of the stuff in the shedJust do it!
Kind regards Rod
