Default Growing old, isn't it fun?

A new hand! Compliments of psoriatic arthritis which is gradually destroying my joints, I recently had all the PIP joints in my left hand fixed: Pinky and ring finger now have nice new plastic joints and the index and ring finger have been fused. Not long after the surgery, the DIP joint in my index started playing up - much pain! So I had the surgeon pin the joint. At the same time I had him remove the pin from the PIP joint, break it and re-pin it into a more usable angle. The finger wont bend at all now, so hopefully, the new shape will be more to my liking - looks like a big fat fish hook now, absolutely no good for nose picking.

I have more movement in my left hand pinky and ringy now than those on my right hand now, trouble is the fused index and second finger have severely affected the dexterity of my left hand, forever dropping things now.

And so the psoriatic arthritis continues wreaking destruction on my body. It's affecting my cervical spine now, so presumably in the near future I'll have to have that fused as well. My elbows are absolutely shot, nothing left of the joint. The growths displaced the ulna nerve affecting the fingers on my right hand, so I had transposition surgery which helped the fingers, but made the elbow worse. Nothing I can do about the elbows for now except put up with the pain. Replacement surgery is out as it is too restrictive post replacement: Cant lift anything heavier than a coffee cup, no repetitive movements and so on. I'm not ready to retire from life yet, so, it's just a matter of putting up with the pain until I am.

I've replaced all the door knobs and tap knobs in my home with levers, extended all the handles on my machinery, replaced all my screwdrivers in my workshop with cordless drivers, same with sockets. Unfortunately, not much I can do about spanners and other hand tools aside from continually picking them up off the floor as I drop them, but that's even getting difficult now as getting down to floor level is getting more and more difficult.

On the bright side, I can still manage work in my workshop though, so life's still good. I had two falls after my hip replacement, so had the psoas bursa removed and the tendon released, Christ knows how long before I can walk out of sight on a dark night again though. I had to retire the recumbent trike I built, hips cant handle that anymore.

If I live long enough, the wife should be able sell my body to the plastic and steel recyclers. It'll save on funeral expenses, she might be able to actually make money from me!

Then the lung cancer came back again, for the third time. Isn't growing old fun?

Not much we can say that would help, but you have my best wishes.
