    Bob,

My brother used one of these 12 months ago for a similar problem.

He absolutely loved it,not sure if this is the walker you were talking about.

My brother just hired one for six weeks!.

    Cheers Matt.

The walker I'm referring to is just the 4 legged frame type - no wheels.
I've seen those knee scooters and reckon they would be the easiest by far to go some distance on and for standing up to things like fridges, basins and sinks.
One problem is they can be very hard to turn around, especially in our crowded and narrow passageways and rooms.
Another limitation is can't do stairs.
The calliper crutches are giving my arms and shoulders a really good workout.
Using the callipers I've been up and down the 5 stair flight , between out kitchen and family room, about half a dozen times this evening - now that is pretty tricky and physical for old farts.

    Good news indeed, Bob.

Getting a diagnosis that you can be confident in does help lift the spirits. Reckon you will need that to get through the next 6 weeks.

But at least you will know you are on the right track to recovery now.

    All the best.

I saw the orthopaedic specialist on Thursday and after a few X-rays she (looked about 15 years old) said everything is healing nicely and she doesn't need to see me for another 4 weeks and if my X-ray at the time is good the moon boot can go.

Meanwhile SWMBO has had a serious attack of Vertigo late yesterday arvo(she's had it several times before) and spent 90 minutes hurling her guts out on the bathroom floor. Everything she took in by mouth came out seconds later. I was really worried about how dehydrated she was getting and was just about to call an ambulance when I caught our GP neighbour coming back from holidays. He said she needed to go to emergency so my BIL/SIL came around and took her in. She went private and got in almost immediately and they rehydrated her by IV including some Stemetil. 5 hours later she was released but still threw up several times on the way home where she crawled into bed and has been there ever since.

Being on crutches I'm not much use. I made some tea in a thermos and brought that and some crackers to her this morning in a shopping bag around my neck at 10am. Fortunately she has managed to keep them down and has improved enough to where she can ope her eyes and watch telly but as soon as she moves it starts to surface again. Meanwhile my son is coming around with some prepared food and groceries to keep us going and my niece is going to walk our dogs tomorrow.

    Indeed!

Vertigo can be very similar to feeling sea sick....

Wishing you both fair weather ahead.

Thanks for the good wishes. SWMBO is slightly better this morn but is moving around slowly and cannot tilt her head down without feeling crook. Meanwhile my unbroken ankle is hurting from hopping around on that leg too much and am a bit worried that if I do Have Osteoporosis I’ll break that one. Fortunately we have more help coming today.

This vertigo has really hit SWMBO hard and I spoke too soon about her getting better

On Sun / Monday things went slightly backward and all SWMBO could do was crawl to the bathroom every now and then, so I had to step up and prepare food for myself (SWMBO was eating little except for weak tea, a couple of crackers, and a slice of apple as a meal,) and feed dogs. I did end up doing too much around the place so that my good foot suffered (I have flat feet) and so by Sunday night just neither of us could do squat and lay on the bed. Fortunately family kicked in, a sister brought over food and fed the dogs, on Monday my niece brought over groceries and also walked the dogs.

By wearing a walking shoe with an orthotic insert I was able to start using my sore good foot and my nephew drove me to a specialist appointment and also walked dogs.

SWMBO is now able to do a few simple things like prepare meals for me (she's still not eating eg much eg Tea and toast with Vegemite) and feed dogs but she has to keep her head upright, and she is a long way from driving.

This morning a brother came over and walked the dogs, brought groceries ,and took me to see mum at the nursing home about 10 minutes away. When we got back SWMBO was sitting up watching TV, provided there were not too many camera pans which made her sick, so every now and the she had to close her eyes.

We've discovered an on-line grocery store near us that does free delivery for orders over a certain amount so we will use that if we need to.
I guess this shows us what we have to look forward to s we get older.

Finally got round to having the right ankle X-rayed last monday - its not quite 100% healed yet but doc said, ditch the moon boot and take it easy - ie no lifting anything heavy or walking dogs any distance just yet. On a less good note after walking around for a few days my right knee is now pretty sore - again. Doc reckons having my right leg in a moon boot took a lot of pressure off the right knee which is why that pain disappeared, but now it's loaded up again it's feeling the old strain.

The good news is my bone density checks show everything is in good shape there - in fact the density is above average for my age.

Given the way COVID19 deals with older people with pre existing health issues, doc has recommended home isolation at which I am well practiced because that's what has effectively happened for the last 6 weeks anyway so it doesn't really bother me. SWMBO still has vertigo and spends a lot of time laying down.

Anyway I now have no excuse to get back to the shed!

Lucky you on the bone density, Bob. One of the upsides of having endless tests is that they invariably find at least one thing that your good on!

Our immunologist son has also recommended that I go into early self-isolation ahead of the curve; being an asthmatic and (just) a bit over the hill I'm a prime candidate. One week in and I'm thinking that, if it's going to be six months of incarceration, it will feel like eternity.

All the best for you and Mrs Bob.

    Stay sharp and stay safe!

For the last couple of days I've been walking around without the moon boot but the former broken ankle and right knee have been slowly getting sorer so midday yesterday I decided to put the moon boot back on and take it easy. I took the moon boot off to go to bed and this morning when I woke up ankle and knee pain have almost gone! I've contacted the GP by email (he's very good like that) and he says SI should wear the moon boot in the daytime and only take it off and walk around for a few hours each day for the next week or so. Bugger! seems like it's gonna be a slow recovery.
