Lethargy
Been feeling quit lethargic for a while now. Doc ordered blood tests.
Everything is fine except for low B12 levels. Now on a course of three
fortnightly injections to get me back on track.
My iron levels are right at the lower end of the OK range too apparently
raising the B12 levels will also help this.

I've been suffering a bit from this lately. Poor diet and lack of exercise I think in my case.
Vegemite seems a bit extreme though, a case of the cure worse than the disease (I'm a Pom, OK?)Geoff

Apparently to begin with, in my case at least, injections are needed to get the ball rolling.
Will see how we go after third injection. Maybe then some supplements.
My diet is fine. Just one of those anomalies I guess.
Mowed the back area of the block this afternoon, 5 hours after the first injection.
Was absolutely knackered when finished. Obviously the stuphph takes some time to
work!!

Research what's needed for proper absorption of B12 or B in general. It's a chain thing.

Yes. I did some research Ern and it is complicated thing.
Two other things showed up in the tests:
*A slight drop in kidney function
*Iron levels down the very bottom of the normal range
It seems to me that they are all inter related but I will have to wait on the next battery of tests to see
what needs to be done next.
Vitamin C helps with iron uptake so I will try taking that also.

Good luck with it Arthur.
I went through something similar once. B injections helped my energy levels a lot but the effect wore off rapidly. This was after repeated test results that showed borderline anaemia. Was sent for tests at the cellular level and the whizz-kid detected some anomaly at possibly the molecular level in my blood! Short story anyway is that I have congenital low haemoglobin levels that std blood tests show up as an iron deficiency. Have taken all sorts of supplements to stop my GPs from worrying that have had no other effect apart from black crap. Have always still been able to do hard long-distance walks and ski tours allowing for the expected decline in age-related capacity.Cheers, Ern

Well it could be that the solution to my problem may be simple.
I take Somac because I have Barret's Oesophagus. This medication
is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). These tend to impede B complex
uptake with the resultant knock on effect on iron uptake.
I also take Crestor for cholesterol. This can effect kidney function,
so I am going to talk to my cardiologist about this tomorrow, It may
be better for me to swallow plant sterols.
Ah well, here's hoping..Last edited by artme; 15th March 2013 at 09:25 PM.

Worth exploring Arthur and I hope it's productive.
I take a PPI too along with daily multi-B vitamins.
LOL, dumb though it may sound, we have a veggie patch done by my partner and something in me says eat that Rocket of which there's heaps. Love it. Dunno why.Cheers, Ern

rocket
Ern,
I loves it too. It is the peppery taste me thinks. Good stuff. Without dwelling on medical matters
I would just add that Vit. D has been a godsend to me so far as immune system is concerned. I also take a
Multi B because of mild anaemia. Anyways here's too good health in 2013 for all. Drillit.

Have had my medication changed to Parieet for the Barrets after consulting the pharmacist and the doc. seems to work better than the Somac, so that's an extra bonus.
Crestor doesn't effect the kidneys but the liver!!!
The two B12 injections I have had have been effective and that is great.
Be interesting to see the results of the next tests.
Also had a perfusion test for the ticker and everything is tickets boo!

Fter the first course of three B12 injections the doc decided on another course of three injections.
These were to be a month apart instead of a fortnight but 3 weeks after the first of these I was back to square one.
Back to fortnightly injections. Wasn't able to get back from Bris. for #2 on the appointed date, but only a day late.
I was so knackered I spent most of today lying down after doing a bit of shopping with SWAMBO this morning.
I'm going to see the doc on Monday, again! I want this fixed as I have plenty I want to do!!!
