    Default Stinky is doing Movember

    Hi Folks,

November is not only my own anniversary of joining these forums (17th year), it is also well know as being Movember.

This year a few brave souls in our office are taking part in Movember. For those who may not be aware, The Movember Foundation aim is raising awareness of some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. Part of this is a participants willingness to put themselves out there, subject to public humiliation, all in the name of a good cause - by growing a mo.

Not one to do things by half, I have drawn inspiration from James Hetfield of Metallica fame (circa 1991 before Metallica started to go bad) and head straight for the handlebar mo. It's fair to say I can't really pull this look off, and it has been particularly difficult at school drop offs and pickups as you can't explain to everybody that its for Movember and not my deluded thoughts that I look good.

17 years ago I was bullet proof - today I am in fairly good health but certainly have noticed changes and have become more are of my own health. The Movember website has some useful information which is useful to read through and keep in the back of your mind for some pointers of what to look for and what you can do.

I checked with the boss (Neil) before positing here. A high proportion of our members will fall into the group being targeted by The Movember Foundation
https://au.movember.com/?home and it would be great if you could spend 10 minutes to drop past the site to see if there is anything in it for you.

Whilst there is absolutely no pressure to donate to the cause, if you
are feeling generous I would appreciate if you could through a few dollars behind my campaign: https://mobro.co/s9michaelsmith?mc=1

Weekly updates can be found on the office Intsagram account: https://www.instagram.com/studioninearchitects/ under Movember. New photos each Friday.

    Cheers

Coming along now ..... Public humiliation still remains and certainly looking forward to getting rid of it in the coming weeks.

My daughter's boyfriend and I decided to have a private challenge.

I've never grown a beard or moustaki in my 50 years.... Have to admit I don't like it, but it has been fun.

Makes me look a bit scary

A small donation has been made.

If every second member donated $5, a huge amount can be raised. Consider contributing. Link in post #1.

Thanks Handy Jack .... very generous donation and greatly appreciated.

I was at our kids school fate today and it was encouraging to see a couple of other dads who have also gone all out for Movember. What I lack in vigour and colour, I like to think I make up with in outrageous style and the willingness to look like a complete tool in public .

Only one more week and one more photo shoot to go after today. The competition in the office is heating up.

I had always hoped that I would look a little more sophisticated with facial hair .... aging gracefully I thought that I would end up with a little salt and pepper like George Clooney. Unfortunately I can only be described as mixed spice.

Well it seems that no sooner than we have grown somewhat comfortable with our mo's that tomorrow is the last day. Some of our team have become quite attached to the mo and are even considering keeping it. What in the first few weeks was just an old look has slowly morphed into the norm.

That's how many men we've lost to Prostate Cancer, Testicular Cancer and Suicide this month alone. The men's health crisis stops for no-one. And so, we must go harder to stop men dying too young. It's time to stand up - in one final, whole-hearted display for the men who continue to die from preventable causes.

Like a half-mast flag flown for those lost, a Half-Mast Mo pays homage to the men who should have been by our side this Movember. This Mo only extends to one side - leaving your other upper-lip glaringly fresh-faced. That's right, step up to the basin and farewell (half of) your handlebar, wisp, trucker or business man in tribute.

Before we head off to half mast day our marketing team at work couldn't resist bringing Christmas and Movember together ..... perhaps two worlds that should never meet.

With the onset of Summer, it is with some relief that I can bring this thread to a close. Movember finished up last Friday, with as promised, half mast day. After a month you do get used to a mo, but it also felt good to get rid of it, especially at the end of Friday when both sides were removed.

Thank you to those who have followed the journey and hopefully visited the site mentioned in the first post and have done some reading. Another special thank you again for those who were in a position to donate to the cause. What started as a bit of fun in the office got a little more serious to see who could make the bigger fool of themselves .... in total the office raised a touch over $5,000 which is a great result.

Cheers .... a clean face Stinky.
