Thanks Fletty, I suppose that "extra bit from within" comes from being a stubborn Dutchman.

I also think it has something to do with accepting that the responsibility for my health is my problem and not my medical team. The doctors and hospitals are there to assist and help me in keeping me in good health. Thus I make sure that I know and fully understand what is wrong with me and the treatment necessary as well as the medications I take.

Thanks John and 'm glad that your PSA is still undetectable as I've been following your cancer journey with interest.

I may have mentioned it before but for my cancer I'm an outpatient at the Olivia Newton John's cancer centre at the Austin hospital. This is a wonderful place for the treatment of various cancers, especially prostate, more so than the official Victorian Cancer hospital Peter Mac.

Thus the doctors are really up to date in the latest research, for they do a lot of the research into cancers, but they prescribed the same type of hormone suppressing treatment for that one works with my autoimmune depressing drugs.

We did discus some of the different types but there is no evidence that they would work with my other drugs. So I'd rather put up with some discomfort for a while rather then risk other problems in case of incompatibility like when I tried a different brand of my blood pressure tablets. That caused me no end of trouble at the time so I'm very reluctant to try new stuff unless needed.

Thanks Neil. I do, albeit a bit slower and with less urgency then I used to do. I work smarter and am more prepared to use trolleys to move things and admit that at times I need help to lift things and Michelle is always willing to help me in doing the heavy lifting and mowing.

I was aware that your hospital was above average. It was for this reason I was implying that if you 'put your hand up' to try something 'new' it could help.

It's a bugger when you have multiple health problems and trying to treat one without adverse effects on the other. When it first looked like I had prostate cancer I could not have a biopsy performed as I had just had blood clots in my lungs and had been prescribed warfarin for 6 months. The cardiologist felt the risk of going off warfarin was greater than the risk of prostate cancer. It was one of the longest 6 months in my life. With the passage of time everything has worked out OK. No more blood clots and the cancer treatment was in time.
