I have it to and find that, if I am an angry ant or stressed out, the level of the ring
worsens! Also if you're real tied or if you've had a big night on the turps!

www.tinnitus.org.au Tinnitus Association of Victoria is a great resource for unbiased, current information. Covers hypnosis as well. This organisation is a respected resource for information. Guilty.. also an audiologist.

For what's worth I suffered very bad tinnitus after a Head Strike to my windscreen ending up with an Acquired Brain Injury.
I went to the Tinnitus Clinic at the Concord Hospital in Sydney, a free service.
After a couple of visits I was encouraged to purchase a "sound machine", about $40 from Myers.
The "sound machine" was for ambience sounds in a room, from rain forest to ocean & waves breaking but one sound was "white noise" sort of like short wave radio static.
I had to have in running very softly in the bedroom at night while I slept to retrain my brain to ignore that sort of sound.
It took a month or so but eventually the tinnitus issue faded away and is now only a very occasional thing.
I hope that helps from my experience.
Cheers, crowie

Hi Rod,
I fully support Dean's recommendation to refer to respected websites such as the Tinnitus Association of Victoria. The direct answer to your question about hypnosis, taken from this website, is that for some sufferers hypnosis can assist with the management of their tinnitus by helping the person to relax

I have tinnitus as a result of: Menieres disease, rifle shots, and the fact I used to build racing engines in a past life.
I have to have noise around me as in my head I have the Pacific Ocean, The Indian Ocean, St Pauls cathredral and Westminster Abbey all competing forairear time, hence the radio on all the time.
Silence would be golden.

i have tinnitus and hyperacusis, feel free to message me if you want any info or advice, mine was caused as a result of TMD/tmj (arthritus in my jaw joint and inflamation of surrounding muscles) i was very bad and had to stop work on site for some years with the hyperacusis until it eased which took some time! just so you can understand how bad it was showering(running water)..eating(chewing)..closing kitchen cupboard doors..womens voices was all too loud/high pitched/painfull
now im ok around power tools only with earplugs but everyday life sounds im ok with........the tinnitus (a somewhat low volume now) is only bothersome now when there is no ambient noise (ie at night) and i take care of this at the worst times with a broadband noise/white noise genarator (little earpiece that fits in ear far enough to be able to put head on pillow without it pressing, this provides some static noise which your brain tunes into and the ringing or hissing in my case disapears......its very soothing i know it might not sound it! so i can reccommend it highly, audimed is the brand but see audiology for this, also i can tell you your ears are like a sponge which when subjected to high noise for long periods can give you a period of increased tinnitus ringing......also like been said when you are tense this contributes...your ear drum is right next to your mandibular muscles put your finger in your ear and open mouth to see.. of course everybodys case is different but this is mine so take from it what you need, oh lastly so on that sponge point, if youre in the trade which you probably are i advise to get some 'round the neck band' earplugs and wear them for work just like you do your underpants every day like i do (i keep them in the car but have a few pairs) and when your on the chop saw skilsaw or whatever stick them in, it just might stop that day where one day you go from not having tinnitus, to having tinnitus and it happens just like that.
peace.
