Tummy tuck
I've just come back from day surgery from an umbilical hernia repair, or as SWMBO calls it, "an extreme outie adjustment"
In at 7:30am surgery at 9:30, out at 10:30 am, back on the ward at 11.00, sandwiches and a cup of tea at 11:15, and home by 1:30 pm.
It's a bit sore but not as bad as I thought it would be.
No lifting anything for 6 weeks!
In front of SWMBO the nurse said I can still do the washing up and get my own TV remote! DANG!!!!!

Take it serious
Having had the same op Bob - my advice is to take it easy as they suggest.
When I was done it was at Port Hedland Hospital and same, same, they turfed me out quick afterwards - go home they said.
Home for me was an island 3 miles off the coast between Pt Hedland and Pt Sampson - involving getting in and out of dinghy 2 times etc - and sadly there was a big swell up that day....
I managed to tear a internal stitch or 2 getting OUT of the dinghy onto the beach back at the island (no jetty), and it got a little infected...
I used to leak some pretty foul yellow liquid for about 2 weeks afterwards until it did finally heal up...any time I tried to do anything or lift anything....
Just take it easy and give it a chance to heal - something like 50% of umbilicus hernia's ops don't work....the surgeon told me.
I can't emphasis the need to just kick back and take it easy... you will feel back to your old self in a couple weeks or so.
No more lifting Jarrah slabs - that's how I tore mine.
That's a young mugs game.

That's how I got into casting. I wanted my doc to be specific and he advised nothing over 2kgs, ie a decent bottle of milk.
Take car mate, need you fit and well by the time I get there to do some milling togetherNeil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Cheers Guys, I do have some serious lazy time planned but could have done without this given the extent of the flu-bug I just got over.

Sheesh Bob!!
You are going to get really itchy fingers being away from all that hefting, sawdust and noise!!
Take it easy, or your recovery may last longer than you planned.

It's going pretty well. Took the dogs for a walk again today and it does not feel as sore as yesterday.
Have managed to not lift anything heavy but admit that it's getting harder and harder to not do it.

Last tuesday was the end of the 6 weeks which restricted me to 2kg lifting and I was feeling pretty good about the hernia operation although I had noticed a dull ache in my left leg for a couple of weeks and that it felt hot in the late afternoons and evening, especially if I had been on my feet a lot during the day.
It was about 5pm and I was throwing the ball for the dogs in our pocket handkerchief back yard when the ball ended up in the back veranda gutter. It's only about 8ft of the ground so I grabbed a back yard chair and lifted my left leg about a foot off the ground to attempt to stand on the chain when there was a loud POP from my leg - I think it was the knee - and I saw stars and a bolt of pain shot up my leg, started feeling faint so I sat on the chair -I even thought I was going to pass out. After a couple of minutes I tried to get up - Lotsa pain coming from the whole leg. I waited a little while and then managed under sufferance to hobble inside where I took a couple of pain killers and lay down, 30 minutes later I was feeling a bit better and could stand and shuffle without much pain if I kept my leg straight and put my weight on my right leg.
SWMBO tried to isolate the pain but despite a lot of prodding a poking could not really confirm where it was - probably shouldn't have taken the pain killers. Laying down my leg could be moved by pretty well any which way by someone else without much discomfort. Standing up I could not lift my leg either straight or bending the knee more than about 6" off the ground. By then the pain killers had kicked in so I hobbled off to the Monthly Fine WWA meeting. When I got home it was very sore so more pain killer and I managed some sleep during the night. The pain was worse if I kept still for a while - getting up after sitting in a chair or laying down it took about 30 seconds for the pain to subside so that I could get shuffling again
Yesterday morning it was very sore - could not stand without pain, more pain killers and then I went to the docs in the early arvo. He also prodded and poked and twisted and pulled my hip knee and angle etc but could not localise the pain. He's a good GP with about 30 years experience and he said he had never seen anything like it. About the only thing he could think of was a delayed blood clot from the surgery so go home and rest and wait for scans etc which I am having today. I should add I have had a big DVT in my right leg before, but that was under severe untreated diabetes.
Last night I took more pain killers before going to bed and had the best nights sleep I've had in months. This morning I had no initial pain on getting up, I can lift my leg with only mild discomfort and walking more normally. The one thing I still can't do is use that leg as the leading leg to climb stairs.
Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing?

Take it easy Bob, too much effort at this stage is still very risky.

2.5 hours in a radiological clinic yesterday and they could find nothing.
Doppler ultrasound scans on two different machines showed no clots although they did pick up a 10 old tear in a calf muscle.
X-rays of all joints showed nothing out of the ordinary and the radiologist even said my joints were is quite good condition.
Pain wise a slight overall improvement. Walking is OK. Still a bit of pain and heat in the lower leg and foot. Can now just climb stairs with my left leg although quite painful.

Further improvements overnight.
Walking is better and can now climb stairs using the left leg as the leading leg with much reduced pain
Still can't go down stairs using the left leg as the leading leg.
