Alternative household waste systems
We have just put our application in to Council to build a bush weekender/cabin and they have knocked back our septic tank since we are less than 100 metres from a river.
Our Geotech guys have now recommended an Ecomax waste disposal system. This above ground system is 7 metres long and 1 metre high - huge - bigger than the cabin.
I'd like something not so big - preferably invisible/under ground.
I'im pretty keen on the Biolytix natural system, and Council would approve it, but I'm not so keen on the cost of having to have it serviced annually.
Are there any other alternatives?

Have a look at the Permaculture Forum.
