Default Where to buy SE Qld rural 90min to Brisbane

    Howdy

On the hunt for advice once again.

I currently live in Nth NSW near the beach and its great. But for family reasons we would like to move closer to Brisbane onto a rural block. Rural being a large block in a small country village, or a larger parcel of land or small acreage.

The budget is about $1,000,000 complete or $500,000 for land and we will build.

We would like to be 60-90min from inner Brisbane, away from the coast and in some place that is green .
So not the Goldie or Sunshine Coast but maybe a bit further inland. Coming from Tassie and Nth NSW I am so used to green that I feel out of sorts away from it. It’s been years since I have been up that way and cant travel over the border to recce it.

Been looking at real estate but cant work out whether the areas are dry or not. Someone mentioned Toowoomba area and Melaney or Delany?

So green, away from salt rusting my tools, enough land for a big shed and a ride on .

    Appreciate suggestions.

Maleny, Montville, Mapleton. All hinterland towns back from the sunshine coast. Always green. Lovely country.

Active woodworkers around too. Blackall Range Woodcrafters Guild: Home

Kilcoy is a lovely rural town
Probably a little more affordable than Maleny
    Woodford is quaint too
Many pleasant rural settings in SE Qld

    Forgot one place...Stoney Creek
    Just outside Woodford
Stunning area with countryside littered with Red Cedars
On the way to Bellthorpe mountain
    Live there in a heartbeat

We lived in Toowoomba for 6 years in the early 2000's and it was a pleasant surprise. Being the second, largest inland town (~170K) after Canberra, and one with a long agricultural/rural history, its very well serviced. And its about 130km to the centre of Brisbane, so an easy <1.5hr drive on the highway (with new roadworks now even better). But the best part of Toowoomba is that its on the edge of the escarpment and the weather is perfect - wonderful breezes and no muggy hot summers. Winters are crisp, but not freezing like the tablelands further south. And its green. Not green like northern NSW rainforest, but the escarpment eucalypt forests and the decades old tending of the city with parks and roadside trees make it very liveable. Real estate in Toowoomba town is catching up with coastal prices, but thee are much more affordable options for small acreage in the surrounding villages. The one downside for us was there is no open water - no rivers or lakes nearby. So we moved to northern NSW near the sea, and are still about 1.5hrs from Brisbane. But we really enjoyed our time in Toowoomba.
