    Default Fires and horses

SWMBO has had an anxious time regarding the fire NW of Perth during the last few days and ended staying up at the stables overnight and most of today. The stables are about 10km from the fires, so she went up to the stables (25 minute drive) yesterday and there were 4 other people there prepping the area around the stables because they don't have enough transport to move all the horses and if they had to evacuate they would have to leave some horses behind. Each person hooked up floats and waited. Fortunately the wind stayed in their favour for the last 24 hours and the firies have been doing a magnificent job stoping the fire heading south west towards Perth.

This afternoon a stiff southerly has set in so she's come home for a rest and I have been sitting on bushfire.io in case there's a problem.
Orange blobs in middle of red are is the active fire front
Blue dot is the stables, Gree dot is our place.
If you look closely you can see the various aircraft at the northern edge of the fire front
Also wind is south west - ie away from stables.

    Thanks

There are quite a few of these maps getting about. Some use info from fire service but others build composite maps using information from the internet. States have a 'duty of care' to provide maps of emergency situations, provide warnings for certain events - in particular fire. The weather Bureau provides a wealth of information backed up by satellites, internet sites (both here in Australia and overseas). Have a look at Meteye on the bureau site - mind blowing. Fire maps can show where aircraft are (aircraft tracked by various agencies), the boundary of the fire, where it is actually burning, what has burnt and warnings and advises that have been issued, refuge centres, and etc. may also have predictions for what may happen tomorrow. Have an internet search for your state fire service for what they can provide to you. In an emergency, they are your friend. If we are to avoid a human toll, we need this information to guide us in making survival decisions. What is becoming another aspect is the impact on wildlife and domestic animals.

I am a volunteer fireman here in VIC, so can fully understand what Bob and his wife are going through. Domestic animals are apart of a family which makes it worst. Can't pack them in the car and go to the shopping centre for the afternoon.
