Fleas, sprays, and cats grooming each other
Hi all
I just don't seem to be able to turn up any info on the net regarding the issue of cats grooming each other after they've had an insecticide put on them. I'm quite sure that the manufacturers would say it's ok, but then GPs in the 1950s said Thalidomide was ok. I have far too many memories of the latest wonder drug turning out to be an absolute disaster (Prozac being the most recent that I can think of - there's even a Prozac Survivors Club).
We've got three cats who groom each other profusely (especially the head and necks). They need some flea treatment, apart from a bath with the appropriate shampoo. What I would like to know is if an insecticide is applied to the cats' necks what is the risk when another of the cats grooms them? None of the many things that I've read (including the labels of the products) mentions this, either ok or not - it's just not mentioned.
The other thing I'd like to get some info on is if a flea bomb is let off then surely the insecticide will rub off onto the cat's coat from the carpet, and then grooming will cause it to be ingested. Is this safe?
Regards, Brett
