    Default New Pet

My Son and I caught (him or her) ??? on the front porch tonight. That's a 3 1/2" (89 mm) diameter mason jar and it can't even stretch out. Zoom in for a closeup and get a look at the fangs on this thing... The wifey about killed me and my son

Anyone got any ideas what kind it is?

Take it out of the jar and take some more photos, I'm sure your wife will understand

Have a look here for more info on local (Carolina) spiders. Looks a bit like one of the nursery spiders.

Not that I know of , least I hope not...

My son got to feeling sorry for it today and took it up in the woods and let it go. I agree with him, something this big and odd needs to be let go... He said it ran up a tree when he opened the lid to the jar.

Anyways the wfiey is glad it's out of the house, it's about all she could talk about last night; saying something like that spider is the stuff nightmares are made of.

    Thanks for the positive ID

    A ruddy big one
The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".
