She had a good innings, but it's still very hard to lose your best friend.

So sad to here. We are in a similar situation with our little doggy of 17 years. He is deaf and blind but all other functions are going ok. He wakes us up at night with his barking and we just comfit him but we have not yet got the heart to take him to the vet for the last visit.

I am so sad for you Hugh.
It is heartbreaking to lose your best mate.
Although you know the time is near and you believe you have prepared for it, the grief is almost unbearable.
We keep on looking for dot com and she is just not there.
She used to sit at the gate and wait for the posties so she could bring in the mail.
    All the best

    Hi all,
Thanks for your thoughts, they all help.

Woody1, you will just know when it is the right time. Just assess his quality of life against his pain and frustrations, and watch for the sign that tips the balance and remember what the Vet told me natural death can be very painful and stressful.
Pippa was still going for 3 walks a day with Phydough (my avitar and 3 years old) and I but Tuesday woke up with the shakes and an irregular hart beat. So we went to the Vet and accepted her advise.
    Regards
    Hugh

Just saw this. Full sympathies mate. I was OS when our last dog had a stroke and also made her last trip to the vet. She left such a big hole in our lives since but the new one is rapidly filling her shoes, err . . . . . collar?
