Unhappy It only took 18 months...

    It only took 18 months...

From the time I ordered the timber until it was ready to pick up

It's ½M³ of Silver Ash that was milled to my specs, which were 200mm X 75mm X 3.6mts. It will eventually be my workbench.... in another 18months+ I've been working on the design for about 10 years, so there is no hurry!

Why did you choose Silver Ash Major. I'd reckon you'd be pretty safe under it during an earth quake.

Typical Major, Silver Ash for a work bench:eek: Knowing your work, it will be good enough for a dining table

You better decide on the right spot to sit this bench, Major - when that lot is all stuck together, it's not going to be an easy move! Just speaking from personal experience - I built my own bench when much younger, now I can't lift the damn top onto the legs on my own, any more..

    Cheers,

Didn't the last workbench you made (for your father-in-law?) end up becoming an entertainment unit, kept in the lounge room?
If this bench is of like standard to your usual quality, I think we ought to have a Poll here, to see whether you ought to be promoted to General Panic.
And maybe we won't wait until then.

I know it helps your work to have quality equipment, but Silver Ash for the workbench?

I'm sure it will be a beautiful piece of work and will be the birthplace of many other beautiful pieces.

Can't wait til you put the 1st ding in it though.

What's wrong with using Silver Ash for a workbench??? That's what I'm building mine out of.. though mine will only be the baby sister to Major's

And where is it? waiting for the shed as the bench will be too good to leave out under that patio cover all the time

    Nice Silver Ash there Major!

    cheers

As most folk have commented, Silver Ash for a bench? Hell's teeth, most of us make do with a crapiata or such bench overlaid with Masonite or similar.

Strewth Major, I suppose you're going to embarrass us all, again, with another work of art eh? Oh, and 1/2m3 - that's a lot of timber for a bench - just how big is the ruddy thing going to be?

Now remember, it didn't happen unless pics are provided...

    Cheers!

    G'day Steve,

At this stage the bench will be about 3000mm long by 900 or 950mm wide.
I'm leaning towards using Jarrah 100X100mm for the legs & sub-frame, it'd be a nice contrast eh?
    Cheers
