    Default one from the ages

Driven past this quite a few times, thought you might like to see it.
It is in a park in Dorrigo.
The photo's don't really do it justice but the plaque should give you some idea.
    It's about 7 or 8 meters long.
You don't see too many of these any more.
Having said that there was a property for sale recently in Bellingen that had a big, big Tallowood that was estimated to be 500 years old. It was BIG

As a kid growing up on the Nambucca it was common for us to see big logs coming into the local mills.

Allan Taylor's mill in Bowraville drew timber from South Arm and The Little Wonder Creek.

I well remember one tree that was felled up South Arm. The first two sections each occupied a single truck!!

When I was in sixth class our room was right next to the road where trucks came down from the Little Wonder, over Broughy's bridge and hen ground their way up the hill pas the school. We became so accustomed to big logs that we ended up taking no notice.

barter, thats like the pioneer "stump" in the back of the upper orara hall, repleat with plaque commemorating forrestry pioneers, but now in the middle of paddocks with no trees for miles and miles. deeply ironic, and sad too.

    artme, where was your school?
