Alepo pine (pinus halepensus)
Does anyone use this pine? Is it durable ? Seems alot like Radiata and I think has been declared as a weed in SA. Its easy to work and a bit denser than radiata.

In SA I once felled over 200 Aleppo pines, Pinus halepensis, and milled 30 tonnes of the timber that I brought back to Victoria. I lined a room with the aromatic timber, the thing was that even after 36 months of air drying and eventually kiln drying the wood, some managed to warp. It was impossible to nail, even with a nail gun. Perhaps this was because the boards were 5/8" thick. The knots were stable and after machining remained in the wood. I recall that the thicknessing and dressing was done at Mathews Timber in Melbourne. It was a wonderful timber to router, clean edged and very hard as well as very dense and heavy. Felling the trees was not my idea, but the local Italian community wanted as many truck loads of dead branches that were used in their homemade pizza ovens. They said that it was the best burning wood as very little burned very hot and long and was ideal for biscuits. I made many friends in Adelaide and ate better than I ever believed I could have working away from home.

Has been grown in Australia along with other pines for timber. Drought tollerant due to long tap root.Timber similar to radiata but the tree is shorter. The tree at Lone Pine was one.
