What is alpine pine
Have a friend who has purchased a piece of furniture made, according to the docket, from alpine pine. She is not really happy with it as it now looks quite grainy (her description). I have not been able to find out what alpine pine is - sounds like some generic term. Any ideas.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

Pinus cembra is used for Bonsai, I don't know about furniture timber.

If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

I would be surprised if the furniture piece were really pinus cembra, (which would be called alpine by the British because it grows in the central European Alps) but the world is full of surprises (and imports). You can recognise it from the compact grain, "live" knots, resinous feel, pine smell, and particularly the yellowish pink colour turning to deep pink with age. I would put my money on standard radiata pine (which is white) being given a fancy marketing name.
Cheers
