American oak live edge
Hello. I am building a house and would like to have some floating shelves with live edges. The flooring and some of the bench work is american oak (engineered flooring) so i have been directed to get the same timber for the floating shelves. Being realistic I would like to know if there is any local timbers that would look similar, to american oak in grain and hopefully that would make it alot easier to get the live edge.
Thanks.

‘American oak’ is usually either white oak or red oak, but can be many other species. If it’s white oak, then Tasmanian oak would look similar enough for a shelf. Live edge should be available somewhere.
It’s much less likely to be red oak, but will be harder to match.Apologies for unnoticed autocomplete errors.
