Default ancient redgum / ancient kauri

ive been offered to have a new snooker cue made for me with a timeless timber maple shaft approx 350yo but this got me thinking y half do it. so my question is do any woodworkers in the know think ancient red gum will be ok for replacing the ebony on the butt of the cue or is it too unworkable?? with veneers in the timeless and secondary's in the ancient kauri. i thought this would look amazing he's already got the maple and the kauri is easy to find only hard one is the redgum (no punt intended)

sorry i rambled and thank u all for your help in advanced

    cheers jay

I think Chris Vespers puts the ancient redgum in selected tools he makes so it should be workable enough for a pool cue, I'm really only guessing tho
