    Default Approachable timber dealers?

From time to time I need to use exotic timbers like say, American Oak. Which you can't easily get here in Tassie. Normally dont need much of the stuff.for example might need say a couple of 1 metre lengths of 50mm x 300mm or the like. These could even be posted to me, probably no need to even wrap up.
So the big question here is.....Does anyone know of a timber merchant (Preferably in Melbourne but realistically anywhere) who could be bothered to post small amounts of timber? Most of the ones I have tried do not seem interested with smaller amounts.

You will find a lot on-line I suspect. I have found some special australian timber pieces on eBay so the OS pie es are probably also there. Not necessarily cheap but, if that is what you want or need, doesn't seem too expensive either.

    Several places in British Columbia.
I think that they're looking for "bragging rights" when they supply woods off-shore.

    Westwind (on Sidney Island, B.C.)
    Windsor Plywood/Prince George, B.C.

I know they are both online, cheap to email and ask.

If/when I knew more about the wood qualities that you need (species, grain, clear?, ring count)
it might be easier for me to ask WP directly. I don't come in to the city of Prince George as often as
I used to. The thrill has worn off 3 hrs in 4x4 on a mountain highway in snowstorms. Round trip
    would take 50-70l gas anyway.

Perhaps a silly question, but with the large range of timbers available in Tassy, why do you specifically want American Oak?
